Indian Army brings cutting-edge drone, AI tech to Tinsukia students
Dibrugarh: The quiet grounds of Phillobari Higher Secondary School in Tinsukia district buzzed with drone propellers and the glow of artificial intelligence demos on Tuesday, as the Army hosted a dynamic World Youth Skills Day celebration, reports Rajib Dutta. With the theme "Empowering Youth, Enabling Progress", the event welcomed over 140 local students for a hands-on encounter with 21st-century technologies — many of which they would only encountered in textbooks. From piloting drones to engaging with AI models, students explored how emerging tech is transforming agriculture, disaster response, and community development. The drone flying sessions quickly became the centrepiece attraction. Guided by Army personnel, students tested unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and learned how AI-enhanced drones can detect crop diseases, map flood zones, and deliver relief materials to remote areas. "Flying a drone for the first time was exhilarating. I never imagined technology like this could reach our school. It's made me think seriously about a career in tech," said Priyanka Bora, a Class XII student.
