FASTag Annual Pass to be launched on Independence Day; 5 Things Travellers Should Know

The new FASTag Annual Pass is all set to roll out from August 15, the day India celebrates its 79th Independence Day . From this day, daily highway commutes in India will get pocket friendly. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will roll out a FASTag Annual Pass which is aimed at helping regular travellers save on toll charges. The new FASTag annual pass is priced at INR 3,000. The pass offers either 200 toll crossings or one year of validity — whichever comes first. Let's have a look at five important things every traveller should know. Eligibility The annual FASTag pass is only for private, non-commercial vehicles like cars and jeeps, among others. Heavy commercial vehicles including buses, trucks, or passenger taxis are not eligible. What makes you eligible: The FASTag must be active It should be correctly affixed to your vehicle The FASTag must be linked to a valid vehicle registration number. Your vehicle should not be blacklisted It should also not be involved in any ongoing disputes related to toll payment. Price and Validity The Annual Pass comes with an annual fee of INR 3,000. Once you cross the 200 limit or the one-year mark (whichever comes first), the pass expires. Regular charges will apply after that. Where and How to Apply From August 15 onwards, travellers can apply via: Rajmarg Yatra App (available on app stores) NHAI official website – Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) site – If you already have a FASTag, you won't need to buy a new one. You can link your annual pass to your existing tag after paying the INR 3,000 fee through the approved portal or app. Is It mandatory? Well the simple answer is No it is not mandatory and is completely optional. Your current FASTag will continue to work. The main aim is to offer daily commuters to save money by paying a fixed fee in advance instead of getting charged at every toll plaza. How will it help daily travellers? For those driving on a highway twice a day for work, toll expenses can add up to several thousand rupees a year. This pass allows: Faster transit, since you won't need to worry about your wallet balance dropping mid-journey. Peace of mind for those who frequently cross the same toll points. If your road trips involve passing through toll gates almost on a daily basis, the FASTag annual pass could help you a lot. For occasional travellers, the regular FASTag payment system works well. From August 15, the choice will be for commuters to choose.

FASTag annual pass from August 15: Save up to Rs 20,000 on highway tolls

From August 15, private car owners can opt for an annual FASTag pass priced at Rs 3,000, offering up to 200 toll-free trips on national highways. Announced by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on June 18 via X (formerly Twitter), this initiative aims to ease toll payments, especially for regular highway commuters using non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans. Here's a breakdown of what this means for you and how much you could potentially save. What is the FASTag annual pass? · The pass costs Rs 3,000 and covers up to 200 toll plaza crossings across India's national highway network. · It is valid for one year from the date of activation or until 200 trips are completed, whichever comes first. · Only non-commercial private light motor vehicles (LMVs) such as cars, jeeps, and vans are eligible. · The scheme is especially beneficial for those who use highways regularly and end up paying toll at multiple points within 60 km stretches. · Activation and renewal will be available through the Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH. How much can you save from an annual FasTag pass? · Regular toll charges for cars range between Rs 50 and Rs 120 per trip, depending on the route. · If you make 200 trips a year and pay an average toll of Rs 100 per trip, your total annual toll cost would be Rs 20,000. · With the FASTag pass, you pay just Rs 3,000 for those 200 trips, a saving of Rs 17,000, or 85 per cent. · Even if you only make around 100 trips a year at Rs 80 per trip, you would still save Rs 5,000 compared to paying each time. Why does this matter? · Reduces frequent deductions from FASTag wallets. · Cuts down on disputes and delays at toll booths, especially where toll plazas are less than 60 km apart. · Helps frequent inter-city travellers, daily commuters, and weekend road-trippers save money and time. · Simplifies toll budgeting with a one-time payment for the year. Gadkari called the initiative a 'transformative step' towards seamless, faster, and more economical road travel for private vehicle users. While commercial vehicles are not covered under this scheme, the move is expected to benefit millions of highway users looking for a smoother ride, both financially and practically.

FASTag Annual Pass To Be Launched In August: Here's How To Activate It

FASTag Annual Pass: The FASTag annual pass is like a prepaid digital subscription, introduced last month by the Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari. The pass, to be launched in August, has now been listed on the government's National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) website for users to check details such as eligibility, validity, benefits and the application process. What is a FASTag annual pass? The annual pass will be launched on August 15 for Rs 3,000 and will be valid for a year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first. It will be valid only at National Highway and Expressway fee plazas. The process remains standard on toll plazas under state highways or local authorities. The government claims that the pass can save users around Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per year, compared to paying monthly toll passes. Users don't need to do monthly top-ups or apply for separate passes for different toll plazas. The decision aims at eliminating disputes at toll plazas and reducing wait times, easing congestion. How to activate the FASTag annual pass? The annual pass will be available to non-commercial private vehicles only, such as cars, jeeps and vans. The pass can be activated via the Rajmarg Yatra app or NHAI's website, and renewal can be done online. The pass will be activated on the existing FASTags; no need to buy a new one. Mr Gadkari earlier revealed that a dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as on the official websites of NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH). The applications can be submitted through the link only. To ease the process next, have a FASTag from a bank or digital wallet like Paytm, ICICI Bank, or HDFC Bank. Also, log in to My FASTag account through the mobile app. After completing the digital payment process, users will receive a confirmation message, and their FASTag pass will be activated. Can users transfer an annual pass to another vehicle? The annual pass is not transferable. It is valid only for the vehicle on which the FASTag is affixed and registered. The pass can't be issued on FASTags with a chassis number only, as the users must update the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) to activate the annual pass.
