Joorala-to-Pakala Water Diversion Plan Sparks Outrage: BJP Leader Warns of Mass Agitation in Palamuru
Gadwal: Joorala-to-Pakala Proposal Sparks Fresh Controversy: BJP Leader S. Ramachandra Reddy Warns of Mass Agitation Jogulamba Gadwal, Telangana – The long-dormant proposal to divert water from the Joorala project to the Pakala reservoir has once again resurfaced, triggering strong opposition from regional political leaders and farmers. Former Jogulamba Gadwal District BJP President S. Ramachandra Reddy has expressed serious concern over Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's recent remarks at a high-level engineering officials' meeting regarding this contentious proposal. Speaking at a local gathering, Ramachandra Reddy questioned the logic and feasibility of transferring water from the Krishna Basin to the Godavari Basin, especially when over 1,000 TMCs of water flow unused into the sea from the Godavari River annually. He pointed out that rather than tapping into the Godavari River, which flows near Pakala, the proposal illogically suggests transporting water over 400 kilometers from Joorala. He emphasized that critical irrigation projects within the undivided Mahabubnagar (Palamuru) region, such as RDS (Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme), Nettempadu, Gattu, Bheema, Koilsagar, Kalwakurthy, and Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, remain incomplete. Reddy argued that proposing a new inter-basin transfer project without first completing these long-pending schemes is not only impractical but also unjust to the farmers of the region. "How can the government justify a new plan involving an expenditure of nearly Rs. 2 lakh crores, when the existing projects haven't even been completed?" he asked, adding that this approach undermines the decades-long irrigation struggles of the region. Recalling the year 2014, when a similar proposal was first introduced, Ramachandra Reddy said, 'Back then, massive protests were launched across all constituencies of the undivided Mahabubnagar district, and we are prepared to do it again if necessary.' He called upon the state government to immediately complete all existing irrigation projects in the region, including extending RDS to its tail-end ayacut and ensuring the completion of Nettempadu, Gattu, Bheema, Koilsagar, Kalwakurthy, and Palamuru-Rangareddy projects. Failing that, he warned, the BJP along with local farmers and the public will initiate a large-scale agitation to protect the district's water rights and development interests. The meeting witnessed participation from several prominent local leaders, including Aija Town and Mandal BJP Presidents Kompati Bhagat Reddy and Gopalakrishna, as well as Lakshman Goud, Nagaraju, and other activists. This development marks a critical moment in the region's water politics, as voices grow louder for prioritizing local irrigation needs over grand inter-basin proposals.

"BJP Slams MP Mallu Ravi Over Mallamma Kunta Reservoir Cancellation: Accused of Betraying RDS Farmers"
Gadwal: A fiery political row erupted today in Aija town as former BJP Jogulamba Gadwal District President S. Ramachandra Reddy accused Nagar Kurnool MP Dr. Mallu Ravi of betraying RDS (Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme) farmers by allegedly attempting to cancel the Mallamma Kunta Reservoir project. In a press conference held at the BJP party office in Aija, Ramachandra Reddy questioned the MP's intentions, asking, "Why are you so angry with the RDS farmers, Mallu Ravi?" He expressed deep concern that instead of supporting long-standing demands of the farmers, the MP had written a letter to District Collector BM Santhosh seeking the cancellation of the Mallamma Kunta Reservoir, a crucial project for irrigation in the drought-prone Alampur and Gadwal regions. Following Ravi's letter, the District Collector reportedly issued directions to the Irrigation SE on the 10th of this month to halt the project, which has sparked outrage among the local farming community and BJP leaders alike. Ramachandra Reddy alleged that both TRS in the past and the Congress now have used the RDS issue to win votes, only to neglect farmers post-elections. He challenged Mallu Ravi's sincerity, stating, 'If you truly care for the farmers, why don't you secure compensation of Rs. 25 to 30 lakhs per acre for the displaced? Prove your commitment.' He also made several demands to ensure water reaches the tail-end ayacut (command area) of RDS at D40, including: Immediate revival and completion of Mallamma Kunta Reservoir Allocation of necessary funds on war footing Establishing a link between Chinnonipalli Reservoir and D12 near Sindhanur Connecting Joorala to Vemula for seamless water supply Reddy warned that if the Congress government fails to act, BJP will launch a mass movement alongside farmers to protect their rights and ensure the full potential of the RDS scheme is realized. The press conference was attended by several BJP leaders and farmers' representatives including: Medikonda Bhim Sen Rao – State Executive Member, BJP Kisan Morcha Gopal Krishna – BJP President, Aija Mandal Lakshman Goud, Ashok, and Srinivas Goud – Local BJP leaders The sentiment among the BJP cadre was one of firm resolve to fight for the rightful irrigation and compensation needs of RDS farmers, accusing the Congress of betraying its promises and stalling crucial irrigation infrastructure. Background: The Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) is a vital irrigation project meant to benefit farmers in drought-prone regions of Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. The Mallamma Kunta Reservoir was proposed as a strategic storage and linkage project to ensure stable water flow to the tail-end areas of the scheme, especially D40, which often suffers from inadequate water supply. Cancellation of the project is being viewed by local farmers as a direct blow to their livelihood and water rights. Would you like a graphic showing the RDS layout and proposed links?

MP Mallu Ravi Approves Chinnonipalli Link Canal, Brings Dual Solutions to Alampur Farmers
Gadwal: In a major move that is set to bring much-needed relief to farmers in the Alampur constituency, Nagar Kurnool MP Dr. Mallu Ravi has approved the linking of the RDS Canal to the Chinnonipalli Reservoir. The approval of this project has been welcomed with open arms by the farming community, who have long been waiting for an effective irrigation solution to overcome the challenges posed by erratic rainfall and limited irrigation resources. The green signal for this critical canal linkage was given on Friday, during a meeting with irrigation department officials. In his address, MP Mallu Ravi emphasized that the RDS Canal, which serves as a vital irrigation source for farmers, would now be connected to the Chinnonipalli Reservoir, just three kilometers away. The project, once completed, will ensure a significant increase in the water supply available to local farmers, especially those dependent on the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS). The Long-Awaited Solution: For years, farmers in the Alampur region have struggled with insufficient water supply, heavily relying on the Mallamma Kunta Project, which often could not meet the irrigation demands of the ever-growing agricultural activities in the region. The new Chinnonipalli Link Canal is seen as a solution to this problem, providing a substantial water supply that could enhance irrigation to more farmlands, ensuring agricultural sustainability. Irrigation officials have confirmed that the Chinnonipalli Canal will benefit farmers tenfold more than the Mallamma Kunta Project. This is seen as a game-changer for the region, especially in terms of ensuring year-round irrigation and reducing the farmers' dependence on unpredictable weather patterns. Double the Impact – Nettampadu Link Canal Development: In addition to the Chinnonipalli linkage, MP Mallu Ravi has also pledged to develop the Nettampadu Link Canal. The development of this canal will further strengthen irrigation infrastructure in the region, extending its benefits to a larger swath of agricultural land. MP Mallu Ravi, while addressing the media, assured farmers that both these irrigation projects would bring substantial improvements to their agricultural productivity and income. "This initiative not only addresses the irrigation needs of today but also ensures the long-term agricultural prosperity of the region," said the MP. Farmer Celebrations and Gratitude: The announcement was met with widespread celebration in villages across Alampur, as farmers expressed their gratitude for the timely intervention. In a display of thanks, farmers have already begun organizing a "Milk Abhishekam" — a ritualistic offering — for MP Mallu Ravi to show their appreciation for his efforts to resolve the longstanding water scarcity issues in the region. Local farmers and agricultural associations have called this decision a 'game-changer' for the community. They believe it will not only bring immediate relief but also contribute to the long-term success of farming in the region, which has been plagued by inconsistent water supplies for decades. A Political Victory for Mallu Ravi: The decision to approve the Chinnonipalli Link Canal and the Nettampadu Canal development further solidifies Mallu Ravi's reputation as a leader who understands and addresses the pressing needs of the farming community. In a region where water scarcity has been a major challenge, Mallu Ravi's proactive stance has earned him widespread recognition and praise from the local population. Political analysts believe this move could significantly boost Mallu Ravi's standing in the upcoming elections, as it directly impacts the livelihoods of thousands of voters in the Alampur constituency. His ability to bring such significant infrastructural improvements reflects his commitment to the welfare of his constituents. Impact on Agriculture: The new canal linkages are expected to bring multiple benefits to farmers, including: Improved Crop Yield: More reliable water supply will help farmers increase crop production, which could lead to higher earnings and better food security. Reduced Dependency on Rainfall: Farmers will no longer have to rely solely on erratic rainfall, which has often led to crop failures. Sustainable Farming Practices: With better irrigation, farmers can adopt more sustainable agricultural practices, reducing soil erosion and improving land fertility. MP Mallu Ravi's decision to approve the linking of the RDS Canal to the Chinnonipalli Reservoir is a groundbreaking development for Alampur's farming community. His efforts to connect two key water resources are expected to alleviate the water scarcity issues that have long plagued local farmers. The announcement of the Nettampadu Link Canal development only adds to the optimism surrounding this initiative. Farmers, political leaders, and irrigation officials alike are optimistic that these projects will transform the region's agricultural landscape. As the celebrations continue, it is clear that MP Mallu Ravi's leadership has made a lasting impact on Alampur, securing a brighter future for its farmers and residents.
