SP expels rebel MLA Pooja Pal after she praises CM in House
Lucknow: Hours after rebel Samajwadi Party MLA Pooja Pal showered praise on CM Yogi Adityanath during her address to the state Assembly in the 24-hour-long marathon discussion on Vision 2047 on Thursday, she was expelled from the party. In her address, Pal, the sitting MLA from Chail who had earlier voted against the party line in the 2024 Rajya Sabha poll, was all praise for Yogi over zero-tolerance against crime. She credited the CM with getting justice for her in the case involving gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed . SP chief Akhilesh Yadav immediately expelled her on charges of anti-party activities and indiscipline. From among the rebel SP MLAs who cross-voted for the BJP in Rajya Sabha polls, Puja Pal is the fourth SP MLA to have been expelled from the party so far. The remaining three including Abhay Singh (Gosainganj) , Rakesh Pratap Singh (Gauriganj) and Manoj Kumar Pandey (Unchahar) were expelled from SP on June 24. Pooja Pal, whose husband Raju Pal was gunned down in January 2005 in Prayagraj allegedly at the behest of Atiq Ahmed, said everyone knew who was behind her husband's murder. She said CM Yogi heard her cries to justice when no one else did and eventually Atiq became history. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Raju Pal was shot dead just days after their wedding. SP MLA Pooja Pal Expelled After Praising UP CM Yogi Adityanath Over Husband's Murder Case
Samajwadi Party MLA Pooja Pal was expelled from the party after she thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for delivering justice in her husband's murder case. The party's leader, Akhilesh Yadav, stated that she had violated party rules and as a result, she is banned from participating in any future party activities. Pooja Pal's husband, Raju Pal, was murdered in 2005 due to a political rivalry involving gangster Atiq Ahmed's family. Recently, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed in police custody, which added to the ongoing political tensions. In the legislative assembly, Pooja Pal openly praised the Chief Minister's strong action against criminals, which sparked controversy within her party. The BJP accused the Samajwadi Party of being anti-Dalit for punishing Pooja Pal, suggesting that the party was not supportive of Dalit voices. Meanwhile, in 2024, the Central Bureau of Investigation convicted seven people for the murder of Raju Pal, affirming that justice was served in the case. A government inquiry found no police negligence in the deaths of Atiq and Ashraf, and the state government assured the Supreme Court of a fair investigation into the matter. This entire episode highlights the complex political dynamics and the sensitive intersection of crime and justice in Uttar Pradesh politics

This Prayagraj BSP MLA Was Chased, Shot Dead In 2005. Here's Why His Wife Thanked CM Yogi
Last Updated: In the bypoll in 2002, Raju Pal defeated Khalid Azim by just 4,818 votes, delivering a major setback to the Atiq Ahmed family, which had held the seat unchallenged since 1989 In 2005, Prayagraj's (then Allahabad) political landscape underwent a dramatic shift, altering power equations and paving the way for years of violent clashes. That year, rising Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Raju Pal Singh was gunned down in broad daylight, a murder directly tied to Atiq Ahmed and his family. In April 2023, Atiq Ahmed was shot dead while being taken for a medical check-up. Following his death, Raju Pal's wife and SP MLA Pooja Pal praised the Yogi Adityanath government and expressed her gratitude. Here's the story behind it. In 2002, Raju Pal contested his first election from the Prayagraj West assembly seat against Atiq Ahmed but was unsuccessful. In 2004, Atiq became an MP from the Phulpur seat of the Lok Sabha, vacating his assembly seat for his brother Khalid Azim, also known as Ashraf. During the by-election, Mayawati nominated Raju Pal, a staunch opponent of Atiq, against Mulayam Singh Yadav's close aide Atiq. The results were surprising, with Raju Pal defeating Khalid Azim by a narrow margin of 4,818 votes. This defeat was a significant blow to the Atiq family, who had dominated the seat since 1989. January 25, 2005: Broad Daylight Firing On January 25, 2005, Raju Pal was returning from Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital when he was attacked. Two cars began chasing his Toyota Qualis, with his companions following in a Scorpio. Along the way, he gave a lift to his supporter Sadiq's sister, Rukhsana. Near Sulam Sarai (Nehru Park), the attackers' Maruti van stopped their car, and about 25 sharpshooters began firing indiscriminately with sophisticated weapons. Raju Pal, along with his companions Sandeep Yadav and Devi Lal, was killed on the spot. Atiq And Ashraf Named In FIR After the murder, Raju Pal's wife, Puja Pal, lodged an FIR against Atiq Ahmed, his brother Mohammad Ashraf, and seven others from the gang, including Farhan, Abid, Ranjit Pal, and Gufran. This case became one of the most talked-about and high-profile cases in Prayagraj politics. Atiq Family Regains The Seat Following Raju Pal's death, Khalid Azim won the seat in the by-election. Mayawati gave the ticket to Puja Pal, but she lost. However, in 2007, Puja Pal won the same seat and defeated Atiq Ahmed in 2012. In 2017, she lost to Siddharth Nath Singh of the BJP, but in 2022, she returned to the assembly by winning the Chail seat from the Samajwadi Party. Murder Of Witness Umesh Pal In 2023, another major twist emerged in the Raju Pal murder case when Umesh Pal, a key witness, was killed. From 2005 to 2016, Pooja Pal and Umesh Pal shared a strained relationship. Once considered close to Atiq Ahmed, Umesh had even testified in his favour in court. Although an attempt at reconciliation was made in 2016, Pooja's resentment lingered, and she reportedly rebuked Umesh's wife for her double standards. After Umesh's murder, tensions flared again, leading to a heated exchange between Pooja and Umesh's family at his funeral. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Three Raju Pal murder case convicts shifted from Prayagraj Jail
Lucknow: To maintain effective jail management and internal security, the Uttar Pradesh prison administration and reforms department has transferred three inmates from Prayagraj District Jail to separate jails across the state. The state govt, after due consideration and in line with provisions outlined in the Uttar Pradesh Jail Manual, 2022, sanctioned the transfers. Officials said the transfers were conducted solely on administrative grounds, a standard procedure often followed to decongest jails, prevent collusion among inmates, or address logistical concerns related to security and classification. According to the order issued by joint secretary Shiv Gopal Singh, inmate Abid was moved to District Jail, Baghpat; Mohammad Javed alias Javid was transferred to District Jail, Aligarh; and Gul Hasan was shifted to District Jail, Agra. The trio, along with four others, was found guilty of the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal and serving life term in jail. Raju Pal and his two associates, Devilal Pal and Sandeep Yadav, were peppered with bullets in Prayagraj in Jan 2005. The murder was the fallout of political rivalry that started when Raju Pal won the 2004 assembly bypoll from the Prayagraj West seat. His victory did not go down well with slain mafioso Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf.
