US Coast Guard responding to cargo ship fire near Alaska; no injuries reported

(Reuters) -The U.S. Coast Guard said on Wednesday it was responding to a fire on board a 600 foot (183 m) cargo ship near Alaska, but added that no injuries had been reported. The ship, Morning Midas, had 22 people on board and was located 300 miles (482.8 km) southwest of Adak in Alaska. The ship's crew was actively fighting the fire, the coast guard said. The Liberia-flagged cargo ship's destination was set for Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico, according to LSEG data. The coast guard said that aircrews and a cutter ship were en route to assist with the situation, and three vessels were already on scene. The U.S. Coast Guard and the ship's owner Hawthorn Navigation Limited did not immediately reply to requests for comment. Two dead, nine injured in Memorial Day shooting in Philadelphia, police say

Two dead, nine injured in Memorial Day shooting in Philadelphia, police say May 27 (Reuters) - Two people were killed and nine others, including three teenagers, injured in a shooting at Philadelphia's Fairmount Park on Memorial Day, police said on Tuesday. All the nine injured in the Monday night shooting are in stable condition. A male and a female, both adults, were the deceased victims, a police officer told a media briefing. A large number of adults were present at the park, according to the police. "We have not recovered any weapons at this time," the officer said. No arrests have been made. "This is significant. It's Memorial Day… we understand the significance of this event and we will make sure to provide an update on Tuesday." Memorial Day, traditionally observed on the last Monday of May, is a federal holiday in the United States dedicated to honoring and mourning military personnel who have died in the performance of their duties. Coinbase plans Indian comeback amid regulatory engagements, TechCrunch reports

Coinbase is working on re-entering the Indian market after ceasing operations over a year ago, TechCrunch reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. Coinbase is engaging with Indian authorities, including the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), to secure necessary approvals for its re-entry into the market, according to the report. "Coinbase is excited by the opportunities in the Indian market, and intends to comply with applicable regulatory requirements," a company spokesperson told Reuters in an emailed statement. The cryptocurrency exchange platform added they had nothing to announce regarding an FIU registration at this time. FIU did not respond to a Reuters request for comment. India is reviewing its stance on cryptocurrencies, due to global regulatory shifts, and influenced by recent U.S. policy changes. Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth told Reuters earlier this month that India's approach on the assets cannot be unilateral, as cryptocurrencies do not adhere to borders. Indians have poured money into cryptocurrencies in recent years despite the country's tough regulatory stance and steep trading taxes.
