Ramadan Village promotes Omani values amid modern challenges

Nakhal – Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs launched the second edition of Ramadan Village in Nakhal, South Batinah last week under the theme 'Your Values are a Trust'. Running throughout the holy month, the event is designed to instil and preserve traditional Omani values, while raising awareness of their relevance in the face of modern-day challenges. The Ramadan Village features a wide range of activities aimed at engaging and educating visitors. These include religious guidance programmes, heritage exhibitions and interactive community workshops. Its goal is to foster a deeper understanding of Omani culture and promote social harmony. Dr Abdulrahman bin Mohammed al Siyabi, Director of Department of Endowments and Religious Affairs in South Batinah, highlighted the success of the first edition and emphasised that the second is built on that success to strengthen the role of Omani values in society. 'This initiative is not just about preserving traditions but reinforcing the moral framework that sustains our society. Through community engagement and educational programmes, we aim to nurture a pure and resilient value system,' Siyabi said. A key feature of the opening ceremony was a thought-provoking dialogue session addressing the challenges of preserving cultural heritage in the face of globalisation. The discussion also underscored the important role of the Omani school curriculum in fostering national values, encouraging a sense of identity and active citizenship from an early age. Additionally, Nakhal Zakat and Charity Committee launched a new endowment investment initiative aimed at supporting charitable work within the community. This initiative is expected to improve sustainability of endowment projects and provide enhanced support for social welfare programmes.

Al Hamriyah Municipality organises "Make Your Lantern" Workshop

From heritage to creativity The workshop offered children the opportunity to be creative and express their ideas by designing their own Ramadan lanterns. The workshop, which was held, on Sunday, after Tarawih prayers, saw great interaction with children visiting the village. Participants were provided with a variety of specialised tools, such as cardboard, paints, and decorative ribbons, to introduce them to the basics of design, decoration, and handicrafts. It also provided them with the opportunity to experiment with different manual lantern-making techniques, which contributed to stimulating their manual skills and enhancing their skills in innovation and creativity. Sheikha Jamal Al Shamsi, from the Corporate Communications Department at Al Hamriyah Municipality, emphasised that the workshop was not limited to crafts alone; rather, it sought to develop the children's intellectual and creative abilities, in addition to instilling the concept of teamwork among them, which enhances their sense of accomplishment and self-confidence. It also connected them to Ramadan customs in a fun, educational, and simple way. Supporting community initiatives His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, explained that the municipality's participation in the Ramadan Village stems from its commitment to supporting community initiatives aimed at strengthening social cohesion and providing a recreational and educational environment for children. Al Shamsi noted that the workshop provided a unique opportunity for children to develop their handicraft skills and learn about the importance of the lantern as a heritage symbol during the holy month. His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi added that the municipality's participation in the Ramadan Village is part of its strategy to enhance community work and institutional cooperation with various entities, most notably the Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club, given the role these partnerships play in achieving sustainable community development. Consolidating national identy Al Shamsi emphasised that such activities contribute to consolidating national identity and strengthening intergenerational bonds, providing children with a creative environment that teaches them the values of teamwork, enhances their sense of responsibility, and instills a spirit of joy and happiness in their souls during the holy month.
