Two men killed as bike falls off under-construction bridge in Khargone
Khargone: Two men were killed after their motorcycle fell off an under-construction bridge on Indore-Ichhapur Road under Sanawad police station area of Khargone district late on Tuesday night.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when locals out for a walk discovered the bodies lying under the bridge, along with a damaged motorcycle and a mobile phone. It is suspected that in the darkness, they missed the service lane and drove onto the under-construction bridge, from where the bike plunged down, leading to a fatal fall.
Sanawad police station in-charge Rameshwar Thakur told TOI that Sanjay Dhakse, 35, and Dharmendra Kohre, 30, residents of Chhapra, died after falling from the under-construction bridge.
Police said that they were identified based on the Aadhaar card found with them, following which the families were informed.
He said on the basis of a preliminary enquiry that both of them left for Sanawad from Chhapra on Tuesday evening and were returning home at night. Thakur said that the company constructing the bridge blocked the road by placing concrete blocks, despite this they crossed the gap and fell down. He said that necessary indicators were not found on the spot.
Thakur said that both were not wearing helmets and suffered severe head injuries. Their bodies were sent for postmortem examination and handed over to the family members. A primary probe revealed that both were drunk but officials said that they were awaiting the autopsy report for confirmation. Thakur said that they are in the process of summoning the concerned contractor and recording the statements of the family members.
Local leaders and residents alleged that the bridge is incomplete even after the construction period has passed and indicators have not been installed at many places.
