Rami Imam Crafts a Cross-Cultural Club Sound on ‘Safara' EP
Rami Imam bridges past and present, blending MENA sounds with house and disco energy. Mar 10, 2025 On Safara, Melbourne-based producer Rami Imam reshapes sounds from the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond into a high-energy fusion of house and disco. Released under his label, Ponda Records, the EP channels Arab disco, Libyan reggae, and Sudanese rhythms, blending archival influences with contemporary electronic production. Born to Lebanese and Greek parents, Imam's diverse heritage is woven into his sound, reflecting a deep connection to the musical traditions of both regions. Tracks like KIDDA fuse pulsating electronic beats with tabla-driven grooves, while BOMBAY SUNDOWN explores South Asian textures within a club framework. Each track builds on Imam's deep engagement with regional sounds, reinterpreting them through layered percussion, rich melodies, and immersive textures. The EP is available digitally on Bandcamp and on vinyl via Ponda Records.
