Report: Jaylen Brown played for Boston Celtics with partial meniscus tear
Report: Jaylen Brown played for Boston Celtics with partial meniscus tear Winning an NBA title always requires a bit of luck when it comes to health, and the Boston Celtics reportedly had considerably less of it than many were aware. Per senior ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne, star Celtics forward Jaylen Brown played from late in the 2024-25 NBA regular season through the postseason with a partially torn meniscus. With fellow star on the wing Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear the injury that slammed the door shut on Boston's title defense, it is clear in hindsight that the Celtics did not have the same injury luck they had in the run-up to their 2024 championship. Add in the mysterious viral illness sapping big man Kristaps Porzingis of his ability to play at a high level and the loss of Sam Hauser to an ankle sprain midway through the Celtics' 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals second round series with the New York Knicks, and it actually fairly impressive Boston was in it as much as they were. Per Shelburne, Brown will be evaluated later this week to determine if surgery is necessary for the Georgia native to get back to his usual self.

Game 1 of Celtics' Round 1 series will be on Sunday
Photo byTD Garden will host Game 1 of the Celtics' first round series on Sunday. We just don't know who it will be yet. The NBA announced the weekend's first slate of games with Boston and Cleveland, the top seeds in the East, both playing on April 20th. Advertisement Both teams of course are awaiting the results of the Play-In Tournament that starts Tuesday. The Celtics will face the winner of Hawks-Magic (7:30 pm) where as the Cavaliers will have to wait until Friday to see who shakes out as the 8th seed. Boston will certainly take advantage of the extended prep time to get ready for opening seres. There's also the matter of Jaylen Brown's sore knee. ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that Brown has received pain management injections for his bone bruise that forced him to miss the final two games of the regular season and twelve overall since mid-February. The Celtics were 1-2 against both Atlanta and Orlando this season, but should be heavy favorites against whoever wins tomorrow. Since February 1st, the team is 27-6 with the second highest net rating (+10.2) and one of only two teams (including the Oklahoma City Thunder) with a top-5 offense and defense. More from

Boston's Jaylen Brown reportedly receives painkilling shot in knee
Boston is the betting favorite to repeat as champion, but the Celtics' path to the mountaintop will be much more treacherous this season. Cleveland is a legitimate threat in the East, and looming in the West is a difficult matchup in Oklahoma City and a couple of other dangerous teams. If the Celtics are going to have another parade, they have little margin for error. Which makes this concerning: Brown got a painkilling shot in his right knee this week, reports Ramona Shelburne at ESPN. Last year's Finals MVP has been dealing with a bone bruise in his knee for some time, but it appeared to be causing him more pain recently. He didn't play much in the second half or overtime of the Celtics' win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday. He then sat out Thursday's loss to the Orlando Magic, ending any chance of him playing in the 65 games required to be eligible for postseason awards. Kristaps Porzingis summed up the situation well to ESPN. 'He's a tough dude,' Porzingis said. 'He always preaches his warrior mindset. He lives by it. But to what extent do we need that right now? Maybe he needs to take care of it and make sure he's going to be ready for the most important moment. I think we need to encourage him to make sure he does everything he needs to prepare to get it healthy and to prepare for what's going to come.' Brown is averaging 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists a game this season. His value to Boston jumps up in the playoffs as teams load up on Jayson Tatum, Brown's scoring and shot creation become critical — it is why he was both Eastern Conference Finals and NBA Finals MVP last season. Boston is going to need that version of Brown if they want to dance with the Larry O'Brien Trophy again.
