Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford still ranked among NFL's elite duos entering 2025

The Los Angeles Rams have been among the NFC's best teams in each of the last two seasons, and it's no surprise considering they have one of the best head coach-quarterback partnerships the league has seen since 2021. Head coach Sean McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford have been ranked the No. 3 coach-quarterback duo in the NFL entering the 2025 season, according to Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame. It's the same spot they held in last year's rankings, but this time, the context feels different. The Rams are no longer a team trying to reclaim past glory—they're actively building on it. The Rams are back to being Super Bowl favorites after a few seasons as fringe contenders. Matthew Stafford is 37 years old but still one of the NFL's top signal-callers despite having only thrown for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns across 16 starts in 2024. McVay is one of the best tacticians in the league, having already won a Super Bowl in the 2021 season. Advertisement Stafford, now 37, continues to defy the typical quarterback aging curve. While his 2024 stats (3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns) won't jump off the page, his command of McVay's system, ability to elevate young talent, and clutch performances have kept the Rams firmly in the title mix. McVay, meanwhile, remains one of the most innovative minds in football, a Super Bowl-winning tactician whose offensive schemes continue to evolve with the game. His partnership with Stafford has been foundational to L.A.'s success, especially as the team retooled its roster after parting ways with several veterans in recent years. Only two duos outranked them: John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, who will face off against the Rams in Week 6, and Andy Reid with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. That's elite company, and fitting for a duo that already has a championship together and might not be done chasing another. Advertisement The Rams may not be the flashiest pick to win it all in 2025, but with McVay and Stafford steering the ship, they're as dangerous as anyone. Matthew Stafford had hilariously humble answer to question about playing in 2028 Olympics

Matthew Stafford has shown absolutely no signs of slowing down as he approaches 40 years old, continuing to put together strong seasons for the Los Angeles Rams in recent years. He's entering his age-37 season in 2025 and though he's still viewed as a top-10 quarterback by most, even he knows he has some limitations – one of them being the 2028 Olympics flag football team. Advertisement With NFL players allowed to participate in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles now that flag football has been added, Stafford was asked Wednesday whether he'd be interested in playing. His answer was perfectly humble. 'You talking about coaching or what?' Stafford said after letting out a laugh and raising an eyebrow. As for whether he would want to play, he knows that's not realistic. 'Sure,' he said, smiling. 'I mean, nobody's going to want me to but yeah, sure. It'd be fun. I'll coach.' Spoken like a true veteran who knows where he stands at this point in his career. Flag football is a young man's game and it would probably help if the quarterback were mobile, so Stafford doesn't exactly check either of those boxes. Here's why Puka Nacua was excused from Rams' first OTA for a 'pretty cool opportunity'

Here's why Puka Nacua was excused from Rams' first OTA for a 'pretty cool opportunity' Nacua had a trip planned with his mom months ago, so he was excused from Day 1 of OTAs Puka Nacua was absent from the Los Angeles Rams' first day of OTAs on Wednesday, but it's not anything that caught the team off guard. In fact, Sean McVay knew for months that Nacua wouldn't be able to attend the start of OTAs. After the team's first practice on Wednesday, McVay shed some light on the reason for Nacua's excused absence. He said the receiver had a 'pretty cool opportunity' to travel with his mom, which Nacua has shared photos and videos of on his Instagram story recently. Nacua was getting back on Wednesday, which is why he missed practice, but he'll be participating in everything moving forward. 'Oh yeah, this was months ago,' McVay said. 'He's traveling with his family, pretty cool opportunity. Got to be able to go travel with his mom. He was getting back today. He'll be here so he's done a great job of communicating a couple months ago.' One of the places Nacua posted on Instagram during his travels was Samoa, which is a special place for him being of Samoan descent. Though he grew up in Provo, Utah, he's proud of his Polynesian heritage so traveling back to where his family is from was likely incredible for him and his mom. Now that he's back in Los Angeles, expect to see Nacua on the field with his teammates again. Follow Rams Wire on X, Facebook and Threads for more coverage!

Rams WR Puka Nacua is going to be a dad

Puka Nacua comes from a big family, being one of six children. He spoke this offseason about wanting to have a big family of his own, which is why he's aiming to retire from the NFL at the age of 30. That announcement made headlines considering Nacua is only 23 years old, but he's already thinking about life after football. Soon enough, he'll have a child of his own to start a family with. Nacua and his girlfriend announced on social media Sunday that they're expecting a baby boy, making Puka a dad for the first time. Watch: Matthew Stafford throwing to Davante Adams and Puka Nacua during Rams workouts

Watch: Matthew Stafford throwing to Davante Adams and Puka Nacua during Rams workouts Matthew Stafford will have a new receiver to throw to in 2025 after the Los Angeles Rams signed Davante Adams as a free agent in March. Puka Nacua will be back, of course, but Adams joins an offense that's looking to improve after sputtering at times last season. Stafford and his receivers are wasting no time building chemistry, hitting the practice field for some reps this week. The Rams shared a video of Stafford (and Jimmy Garoppolo) throwing to Nacua and Adams, who were running some routes on air. This is a light portion of the offseason program so there are limitations to what teams are allowed to do, but it's still exciting to see Adams and Nacua catching passes from their star QB. If everything comes together like the front office and coaching staff hope, the Rams could be a scary team in 2025. We know their defense is going to keep getting better after hitting its stride late last year, but the offense has a chance to take a big step forward with Adams at wide receiver.
