Lynk and Turkcell demonstrate D2D satellite technology in Türkiye
The tests conducted in a rural area near Konya, Turkey, utilised Turkcell's mobile frequencies and Lynk's satellites to provide SMS exchanges and voice calls using commercial cell phones. Lynk Global has tested its patented direct-to-device (D2D) satellite technology in Türkiye in collaboration with Turkcell, the countrys mobile operator with over 40m subscribers. The testing campaign marks a significant step in Lynks ongoing efforts to enhance mobile network resiliency and coverage across Türkiye, following an agreement between the two companies announced in February 2024. Ramu Potarazu, Chief Executive Officer of Lynk, said: 'We are thrilled to add Türkiye to the growing list of countries where Lynk has showcased its patented and proven technology. Along with Turkcell, Lynk is committed to enhancing connectivity across rural areas in Türkiye, including in emergencies when terrestrial networks are temporarily inoperable.' As Türkiyes leading mobile operator, Turkcell continues to innovate to ensure seamless communication and expanded coverage. In collaboration with Lynk, the company conducted the countrys first field tests of D2D technology, which enables mobile servicesincluding SMS, voice calls and mobile datadirectly to standard mobile phones via low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. The tests, carried out in a remote area near Konya, Türkiye, utilised Turkcells mobile frequencies and Lynks satellite network to successfully facilitate SMS exchanges and voice calls on commercial cell phones without the need for specialized devices or additional hardware. This breakthrough highlights the potential for satellite-enabled mobile coverage to complement existing terrestrial networks, ensuring greater connectivity in rural and underserved areas while also bolstering communication capabilities during emergencies.

SES and Lynk Global form alliance to enhance D2D connectivity
SES to enhance Lynk Globals D2D services and serve as its channel partner for key clients under the investment agreement. SES and Lynk Global have announced a strategic partnership to expand services in the rapidly growing direct-to-device (D2D) segment. As part of the agreement, SES will invest in Lynk Globals Series B funding to support its D2D satellite constellation while also providing a suite of integrated services to enhance its capabilities. This includes MEO-Relay, which enables D2D providers to route traffic between low Earth orbit (LEO) and SESs medium Earth orbit (MEO) network, facilitating secure real-time data delivery while minimising investment in ground infrastructure and improving the reach and resilience of D2D constellations. Additionally, SES will offer Network-as-a-Service, leveraging its global ground network to provide gateway access, as well as its geostationary satellites for Telemetry, Tracking, and Command and Monitoring (TTC & M) services. This partnership aims to strengthen connectivity solutions and accelerate advancements in satellite communication. SES will also become a strategic channel partner for Lynk Global, enabling key government, MNO and automotive customers to access Lynk Global's D2D network. This will allow SESs customers to benefit from a broader range of applications including remote access, mission-critical first responder and secure government communications, offshore and automotive connectivity. SES and Lynk Global will collaborate in the development of Lynk's network architecture, as well as satellite manufacturing in the US and Europe. Ramu Potarazu, CEO of Lynk Global, commented: 'This long-term strategic collaboration with SES will deeply integrate our networks to enhance our capabilities, and validates our LEO D2D network. With access to the right satellite infrastructure and dedicated ground infrastructure through SES, we are strengthening our ability to address government, MNO, and automotive D2D use-cases.' Adel Al-Saleh, CEO of SES, said: 'We recognise D2D as an exciting growth opportunity that complements our multi-orbit network to address a broader set of use cases. This partnership gives SESs exposure into the D2D segment and is a key part of our strategy to diversify into this nascent, high-growth segment. SESs multi-orbit network, particularly our MEO and ground infrastructure, will enhance the resilience, global reach, and innovation of Lynk's D2D network. Lynk Global will be the first D2D provider to benefit from our MEO-Relay service working in orchestration with our global ground-based infrastructure network. SES and Lynk will collaborate to expand Lynk's manufacturing into Europe, creating opportunities to incorporate Lynk's D2D capabilities into European programmes.'
