Jharkhand: Girl on way to school kidnapped in Ranchi, rescued
Last Updated: Ranchi, Jul 30 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl, who was kidnapped while on her way to school in an e-rickshaw on Wednesday morning in Jharkhand capital Ranchi, was later rescued in neighbouring Ramgarh district, police said. The persons, who were allegedly involved in the kidnapping, were arrested within 12 hours of the incident, they said. The kidnappers allegedly left her at a place in Kuju police station area, around 60 km from here, they added. The girl was kidnapped from the city's Siramtoli area in Chutia police station area. 'After receiving information around 8.45 am, a massive check was ordered in 90 locations spread over 10 districts of the state," Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha said. Seeing the massive police deployment, the kidnappers dumped the girl and fled, he said. According to locals, a few youths in a car intercepted the e-rickshaw in which she was travelling, near Siramtoli flyover in Ranchi and forced her into their vehicle and fled, they said. Five persons, including a minor, allegedly involved in the kidnapping were arrested, according to a statement issued by Ranchi Police. The car used in the crime, two country-made pistols, two cartridges, two smartphones and Rs 5,200 in cash were seized from their possession, it stated. 'Of the five arrested people, four were involved in the kidnapping, while one person had changed the number plate of the vehicle," the release said. 'During interrogation, the criminals admitted that they had carried out the kidnapping for ransom. They wanted to flee to Bihar with the girl," it further said. Police said the main conspirator, identified as Rudranshu Vishwakarma, a gym trainer, had planned the kidnapping for ransom to clear a debt. The man, who opened fire during the kidnapping, was identified as Rishabh Burman, the release added. Maoist Leader Who Planted Bombs Inside Bodies Of Policemen Among 4 Arrested
Last Updated: Jharkhand ATS and Ranchi Police arrested four Naxal operatives, including CPI (Maoist) sub-zonal commander Yogendra Ganjhu, who was extorting businesses and targeting CCL employees In a joint crackdown, the Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Ranchi Police have arrested four Naxal operatives, including Yogendra Ganjhu, a sub-zonal commander of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in the Koyal-Shankh Zone. The arrests were made from the Khalari police station area on the outskirts of Ranchi. Ganjhu, a repeat offender, had earlier served time for one of the most disturbing attacks in Jharkhand's Maoist history by planting IEDs inside the bodies of slain policemen in Latehar's Garu region. Released from jail recently, police say he was once again attempting to revive operations by extorting local businesses and targeting employees of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). The action came after a CCL employee filed a complaint about a Rs 1 crore levy demand. The caller, identifying himself as 'Manoj ji," threatened to kill the employee if the money wasn't paid. The Maoist group had also reportedly issued similar threats to local traders, triggering concerns about a fresh wave of extortion and intimidation in Ranchi's coal belt. Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha confirmed that the operation was based on intelligence shared by ATS. Along with Yogendra Ganjhu, the police arrested Mukesh Ganjhu, Manu Ganjhu, and Rajkumar Nahak. A SIM card used for issuing the threats was allegedly bought for Rs 10,000, hinting at a calculated effort to remain off police radar. 'After his release, Yogendra was trying to regroup and collect funds for the Maoist outfit," SSP Sinha said, adding that the police and ATS are closely tracking the movement of other suspected operatives. Raids are ongoing to locate more members believed to be part of this network. While the arrests have disrupted immediate threats, authorities are urging continued vigilance. The area remains sensitive, and police believe more Maoist operatives could be trying to re-establish their presence in and around Ranchi. view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 12:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
