Mathews Elementary students learn how to be kind to animals at a young age
VIENNA TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Mathews Elementary School students are learning about being kind to animals. The school partnered with the National Humane Education Society to bring its free Kindness in the Classroom program to Vienna during Random Acts of Kindness Week. Megan Hessenberger is a humane education and advocacy coordinator with the organization. She brought her ambassador dog, Vader, with her to talk to students about ways they can be kind, responsible and safe to create a more humane world for animals. 'Doing our program at such a young age, we know that kids are very kind in nature and they have that compassion for animals. So we just want to show them how they can, in their own lives, be kind, responsible and safe, and create a better world,' Hessenberger said. Mathews students also held a treat drive to support animal welfare efforts. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. The driver's timber fell out of his truck onto the busy road. Everyone has bad days. For one elderly man hauling timber in his pickup truck, this day was off to a rough start. While driving down a busy road in Merritt Island, Florida, his entire load of wooden beams fell onto the road behind the truck, causing a moment of panic in the street. Instead of just watching the elderly gentleman try to manually reload the wood himself, strangers began to get out of their cars left and right to assist. Many hands make light work as they say, and the extra help made it a quick cleanup! The woman who filmed the video was so inspired by this random act of kindness from her boyfriend and others that she decided to pull out her phone to capture the moment. "We live in a time where people would rather gawk and stare rather than help anyone, it was a moment of excitement to see all these gentleman coming to the aid of the older man" she reflected.
