Queen Elizabeth's custom Range Rover hits UK auction block for $143k

A custom-built luxury Range Rover once owned and used by the late Queen Elizabeth II is heading to auction later this month.
While the late Queen had access to a wide range of vehicles for various royal duties, this particular model — a 2006 supercharged Range Rover V8 — is unique.
Iconic Auctioneers is handling the sale, which will take place at the Silverstone Festival in the UK later this month.
According to the auction house, this L322 Range Rover is believed to be the only supercharged Range Rover ever owned by the Royal Household.
The car is estimated to fetch up to $143,950 (£70,000).

Under the bonnet is a Jaguar-derived 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine.
The vehicle was used exclusively by Her Majesty between 2006 and 2008 and was equipped with several royal modifications during that period. It is also likely the Queen herself clocked up several thousand kilometres behind the wheel.
Official records show the car has travelled just under 18,000 miles since it was released from Royal Household duties in April 2009.

The odometer currently reads under 120,000 miles (193,121 km), and the car is reportedly still in superb condition.
This particular Range Rover also features some unique and subtle royal elements.
Photos show a blue tint on the front and rear light clusters, which could mean the car retains the discreet blue flashing light system used to clear traffic during emergencies or official movements.

According to the auction listing, several other original royal modifications remain intact.
These include side steps, mud flaps, a load-space mat, rear grab handles to assist with entry and exit, and a dog guard.
The listing also confirms that there are less apparent modifications that still exist throughout the vehicle, such as rewiring for secure communications and the installation of security equipment.

Iconic Auctioneers notes that it's nearly impossible to verify early ownership of the Range Rover fully.
However, photographs of the registration plate BJ06 ZGM show the vehicle actively served Queen Elizabeth at various events.
According to the auction house these photographs provide enough evidence to confirm the SUV's authenticity.

'This 2006 Range Rover L322 was delivered new on 25th April 2006 for the exclusive use of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,' the listing states.
'As with all vehicles of this nature, it is almost impossible to clarify early ownership with various authorities.

'Queen Elizabeth II can be seen in attendance and departing the vehicle at the 2007 Royal Windsor Horse Show, verifying the provenance to be both genuine and distinguished.'
Queen Elizabeth II was known for her passion for cars, particularly those made in Britain. Her extensive collection included everything from Range Rovers and Land Rovers to Bentleys and Rolls-Royces.
