The Royals' Creator Promises To Consider Fan Feedback For Season 2

Last Updated: Rangita Pritish Nandy, the co-creator of The Royals, emphasised the importance of audience feedback after Season 1. Netflix's much-debated rom-com series, The Royals, has officially announced a second season. Mere weeks after its initial release on May 9, the Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer show promises even more intrigue, drama, and twists in season 2. Offering a fresh, glamorous perspective on modern-day Indian royalty, The Royals received mixed responses. Acknowledging the varied feedback received for Season 1, the creators are committed to incorporating lessons learned into the upcoming season. Speaking about the same, Rangita Pritish Nandy, co-creator of The Royals, recently mentioned that the team is 'still mapping the storyline based on our learnings and findings from season 1." In an interview with Hindustan Times, she also confirmed their intention to push the envelope in Season 2. 'What's clear is that we will continue to push through on the romantic comedy heart of our show whilst adding newer royalty, their intriguing echo chambers and inner worlds, and crack new characters," Rangita Pritish Nandy said, hinting at an expanded world and deeper explorations of characters. In the same conversation, she was asked if they would consider the feedback. Rangita emphasised the importance of audience feedback and said, 'We would be foolish not to. The joy is in listening, the good and the ugly, and then transcribing that to hit season goals." Speaking about The Royals season 1, the rom-com series revolves around Aviraaj Singh (played by Ishaan Khatter), a reluctant modern-day prince inheriting the royal throne of Morpur, and Sophia Kanmani Shekhar (Bhumi Pednekar), the ambitious CEO of a luxury homestay startup. While the duo teams up to transform Morpur's struggling haveli into a unique luxury B&B experience, they eventually fall in love. Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, the show features a stellar ensemble cast alongside Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter. It includes veteran actress Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Luke Kenny, Kavya Trehan, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra, and Sumukhi Suresh. The show was a significant success for the streaming giant, consistently topping India's charts and trending in 58 countries worldwide. First Published:

Romcoms are a rare breed in Indian streaming. Producer and creator Rangita Pritish Nandy is aware of the dearth of the feelgood, fun love story and hopes to fix it with The Royals, a Netflix series which follows the growing attraction between Bhumi Pednekar, playing a go-getter entrepreneur, and Ishaan Khatter as a reluctant crown prince. 'We don't live in a simple world anymore,' says Nandy, talking about why the genre is overlooked. 'Everything on OTT is at a certain decibel level. To do the easy decibel space is tough.' Romcoms are perceived as smaller in the larger scheme of things, but Netflix dished out a royal treatment, allowing Nandy and her team 'to dream', be it in scale or set-pieces (yes, there's a ball!).
