Jaipur: A JMC-Heritage garbage hopper rammed into a motorbike in Jaisinghpura Khor police station area on Saturday afternoon, killing 40-year-old Ram Kalyan Saini and injuring his wife, Rasal. According to police, the collision occurred near the Jaisinghpura Khor police station when the corporation's garbage collection vehicle came from the opposite direction and struck the bike. Locals rushed the injured couple to a private hospital, where doctors said Ram Kalyan died during treatment due to severe head injuries and excessive bleeding. On Sunday, grieving family members sat in protest at the main stand on Hatwara Road, demanding action against the driver, a govt job for one family member, and justice for the victim. MLA Balamukundacharya arrived at the protest site and assured the family of Rs 5 lakh as compensation, a 100-square-yard plot, a govt job for one member, and a dairy booth. ACI Bhopal Singh Bhati said, "The deceased was travelling with his wife to celebrate Raksha Bandhan when the corporation's garbage hopper caused this accident. The MLA has agreed to all the demands, and further action is underway." Locals expressed anger over the conduct of municipal hopper drivers. tnn

Two held with 52g MDMA brought for sale among youth

Kochi: Ernakulam rural police arrested two men with 52g of MDMA on Friday. The arrested persons were identified as Muhammed Mishal, 27, of Karmalloor and Rasal, 26, of Uliyannoor. The accused were arrested by the rural district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) team and Alangad police. They were nabbed based on a tip-off received by district police chief M Hemalatha. According to police, MDMA was allegedly recovered from Mishal's residence. Police said the drug was brought from Bengaluru and sold among youngsters here. The seized drugs are valued at approximately Rs 2.5 lakh. An electronic scale used for weighing MDMA, the car used for transportation and glass tubes and pipes used for consumption were also confiscated, said police. Police mentioned that Muhammed Mishal was an accused in several cases. Meanwhile, city police arrested a 26-year-old man with 1.8g of MDMA. The accused was arrested by the Kochi city Dansaf team. The arrested person was identified as Alan Joshy of Manjummel. The accused was arrested from near Megha Water Tank Godown in Madappat, Eloor. The accused was booked under relevant sections of the NDPS act. Rural police also arrested a 51-year-old man for illegal sales of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) on Friday. The arrested person was identified as Sunil of Edayapuram. The accused used to sell IMFL bottles on dry days and as per the demand of the customers at higher rates.
