Or karma? With Israel promising to take over Gaza City, even Germany announced a break with the country for which it has always felt a special responsibility due to the Holocaust. Chancellor Merz promised to suspend arms exports that Israel could use in Gaza. Germany is Israel's biggest supplier of arms after US – this would be Berlin's first punitive measure against a country it has unwaveringly supported.
