DCP Rashmitha Rao Counsels Drug Addicts At Rehab Centre

Nagpur: As part of the ongoing Operation Thunder anti-drug awareness campaign, deputy commissioner of police (zone 4) Rashmi Rao personally interacted with and counselled over 50 recovering drug addicts at Prerna De-Addiction Centre on Besa-Pipla Marg. The session was conducted on June 24 under the weeklong World Anti-Drug Day events by Nagpur city police. Held between 8pm and 9pm, the session focused on educating in-patients at the centre about the physical, mental, and social consequences of substance abuse. Rao, along with assistant commissioner of police (Ajni division) Narendra Hiware, urged the recovering individuals to embrace a drug-free lifestyle and reclaim their lives and families. Speaking at the session, Rao emphasized that drug abuse doesn't just destroy health but also shatters homes and children's futures. "Rehabilitation is not just about quitting a substance — it's about building a stronger life," she said. The event was part of the broader Operation Thunder initiative launched by police commissioner Ravinder Singal, with awareness programmes scheduled from June 20 to 26 across the city. Prerna De-Addiction Centre, run by Prashant Bharti for the last 14 years, has treated over 1,200 patients. According to Bharti, nearly 50–60% of those treated have fully recovered and reintegrated into society, many now living stable, addiction-free lives. DCP Rao was accompanied by a team of cops led by PI Mukund Kawade of the Beltarodi police station.
