Accompanied by Lohardaga MLA Rameshwar Oraon and senior Congress leaders, they also offered prayers and interacted with temple committee members and local organisers.
The Rath Mela, scheduled for June 27, draws thousands of devotees every year. The temple management has begun preparing for the annual event. "This year, we want to ensure better coordination and improved facilities. The event will be conducted with its traditional spirit, and the govt will extend all necessary support," Singh said.
Oraon, a former IPS, recalling his long association with the event, said, "I first participated in the Rath Yatra in 1974 when I was a young officer. Since then, I've seen how this event has grown in scale and meaning. It brings people from all communities together. Every year, I pray here for the well-being of the people, this time especially for prosperity and relief from poverty."
Several leaders emphasised that the fair should remain accessible to small vendors, particularly those from rural and semi-urban areas. They suggested that instead of tendering stalls or allocating them through contractors, the administration should explore alternative methods that keep participation affordable and inclusive. For many families, it is an important seasonal source of income.
Dhurwa resident Anil Yadav said, "The festival changes the whole atmosphere here. Even those who don't visit temples regularly come during Rath Yatra. Dhurwa feels different and more alive."
