Rajasthan MLA Takes Rs 20 Lakh Bribe To Drop Questions In Assembly, Arrested
Last Updated: According to ACB Director-General Ravi Prakash Meharda, the deal was initially finalised at Rs 10 crore, but was later finalised at Rs 2.5 crore. Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Jaikrishn Patel was arrested by Rajasthan's Anti-Corruption Bureau while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. He was held from his official residence in Jaipur after ACP laid a trap following a complaint by a mine owner from Todabhim block in Karauli district. It is alleged that Patel demanded 2.5 crore from the mine owner to withdraw three questions related to mining leases in the Todabhim area. The three questions-two starred and one unstarred- were submitted during the previous session of the Rajasthan Assembly. On April 4, the mine owner filed a complaint with the ACB about the same. According to ACB Director-General Ravi Prakash Meharda, Patel initially demanded Rs 10 crore from the mine owner to drop the questions, but the deal was later finalised at Rs 2.5 crore. Of the total settlement amount, the complainant gave him Rs 1 lakh in Banswara at the time of verification. The DG also claimed that ACB has audio and video evidence to prove that the MLA demanded and took the bribe. The evidence will help get the MLA convicted. Notably, Jaikrishn Patel is a first-time MLA from Banswara district's Bagidora assembly constituency (ST). He was elected in the by-polls held along with the Lok Sabha elections last year. The ACB DG also claimed that Patel handed the bag that had the cash to a man who managed to escape with it. Reacting to the bribe allegations against its MLA, the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) supremo and Banswara MP Rajkumar Roat said the party will take action against the MLA if his involvement is found. 'It will not be appropriate to say anything on the matter. It could be a conspiracy of the BJP government. We are looking into the matter and if the involvement of the MLA is found, the party will take suitable action," he was quoted as saying by PTI. First Published: May 05, 2025, 09:20 IST
