Shiv Sena (UBT) workers protest at KMC against corruption in development works in Kolhapur city

Kolhapur: Shiv Sena (UBT) workers held a Kolhapur Municipal Corporation gherao protest at noon on Monday, demanding explanations regarding the alleged massive corruption in development works executed by the civic body. The party workers encircled the main Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) building with two-wheelers and autorickshaws, blocking the entry and exit points. They protested against the drainage pipeline scam and substandard work in road projects undertaken with Rs 100 crore funds. Additionally, concerns were raised over corruption in the Gandhi Maidan cross drain and the installation of heritage-style musical street lamps around the Mahalaxmi temple. A written statement outlining various demands was submitted to KMC additional commissioner Ravikant Adsul. During the protest, Sena (UBT) district president Ravikiran Ingawale criticised the overall administration of the municipal corporation. Ravikiran Ingawale said, "A corruption competition has started in the municipal corporation. A situation has arisen where whoever commits the most corruption gets the most reward. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo The officials in the KMC have become corrupt, and they do not want local body elections. The scam of Rs 85 lakh was done in collusion by the people's representatives and officials of Kolhapur. The roads worth Rs 100 crore have been ruined. The accused in corruption cases are made complainants." Ingawale called for the suspension of corrupt officials involved in the drainage scam at Kasba Bawda. "If no action is taken, then it is wrong. The scam of Rs 85 lakh is not a joke. The siege imposed on the municipal corporation on Monday was to wake up the people of Kolhapur," he added. Meanwhile, though administrator K Manjulekshmi appointed an inquiry committee to investigate the entire drainage scam case and submitted a report, no significant action has been taken by the municipal administrator yet. Addressing the Shiv Sena (UBT) party workers, KMC additional commissioner Ravikant Adsul said, "The thorough investigation regarding the Rs 85 lakh fake bill corruption in the drainage pipeline is ongoing. The KMC administrator has already assured of taking strict and legal action against the culprits."

IMD issues red alert for Kolhapur dist; farmers a worried lot

Kolhapur: The district is bracing for a significant surge in rainfall on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert. The alert means isolated areas could experience extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, which are expected to disrupt daily life. On Monday, Kolhapur was under an orange alert, leading to intense downpour across the district. By 8am on Monday, seven of the twelve major dam catchments — Tulsi, Kasari, Chikotra, Kumbhi, Patgaon, Ghatprabha and Sarfnala — had already received over 90mm of rain in the preceding 24 hours. However, rainfall in these areas slowed considerably in the subsequent eight hours, receiving less than 20mm by 5pm. Overall, Kolhapur district recorded 45.4mm of rain on Monday. The rising water levels are already causing issues. The Panchaganga river, for instance, reached 18.9 feet by 6pm Monday, an increase of 1.6feet in just eight hours. This has led to 13 barrages across the district being submerged by the swollen waters of the Panchaganga, Kasari, Bhagawati, and Dudhganga rivers. Consequently, local traffic is affected, rural weekly markets are disrupted, and farming activities have come to a standstill throughout the district. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 40대 이상이세요? 한 번 시작하면 멈출 수 없어요. 준비되셨나요? But this time, due to the early arrival of rainfall, pre-monsoon farming activities have been halted. A break of a few days will be very useful for farmers to complete the tasks." UBT warns of jal samadhi at Gandhi Maidan Gandhi Maidan, a football ground located in the centre of Kolhapur city, has turned into a lake due to the rainfall received in Kolhapur over the last week. KMC officials and politicians are being trolled on social media following the presence of ducks at the ground. Citizens are now questioning where the Rs5 crore approved for Gandhi Maidan works has gone. Former KMC corporator Ravikiran Ingawale said, "The money spent on the cross-drain works at Gandhi Maidan have been exposed by a week of rain. On behalf of Shiv Sena (UBT), we will take jal samadhi at this maidan on Thursday to highlight this issue."
