These 20 stocks are working on everything from early diagnostics to drug discovery. The best part - they are all under $10bn in marketcap - there is still time to get in early. In fact, the recent purchase by De Lyle Bloomquist was the biggest purchase of Rayonier Advanced Materials shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$3.97 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for Rayonier Advanced Materials share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price. In the last twelve months Rayonier Advanced Materials insiders were buying shares, but not selling. The average buy price was around US$4.62. This is nice to see since it implies that insiders might see value around current prices. View our latest analysis for Rayonier Advanced Materials Rayonier Advanced Materials is not the only stock insiders are buying. So take a peek at this free list of under-the-radar companies with insider buying. I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that Rayonier Advanced Materials insiders own 4.6% of the company, worth about US$13m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment. It is good to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Rayonier Advanced Materials insiders are well aligned, and that they may think the share price is too low. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. Investors in Rayonier Advanced Materials (NYSE:RYAM) have seen fantastic returns of 486% over the past five years

While Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc. (NYSE:RYAM) shareholders are probably generally happy, the stock hasn't had particularly good run recently, with the share price falling 26% in the last quarter. But that doesn't undermine the fantastic longer term performance (measured over five years). To be precise, the stock price is 486% higher than it was five years ago, a wonderful performance by any measure. So it might be that some shareholders are taking profits after good performance. But the real question is whether the business fundamentals can improve over the long term. Now it's worth having a look at the company's fundamentals too, because that will help us determine if the long term shareholder return has matched the performance of the underlying business. AI is about to change healthcare. These 20 stocks are working on everything from early diagnostics to drug discovery. The best part - they are all under $10bn in marketcap - there is still time to get in early. Rayonier Advanced Materials wasn't profitable in the last twelve months, it is unlikely we'll see a strong correlation between its share price and its earnings per share (EPS). Arguably revenue is our next best option. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally hope to see good revenue growth. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth. For the last half decade, Rayonier Advanced Materials can boast revenue growth at a rate of 3.6% per year. Put simply, that growth rate fails to impress. So shareholders should be pretty elated with the 42% increase per year, in that time. We'll tip our hats to that, any day, but the top-line growth isn't particularly impressive when you compare it to other pre-profit companies. Having said that, a closer look at the numbers might surface good reasons to believe that profits will gush in the future. You can see below how earnings and revenue have changed over time (discover the exact values by clicking on the image). We consider it positive that insiders have made significant purchases in the last year. Even so, future earnings will be far more important to whether current shareholders make money. You can see what analysts are predicting for Rayonier Advanced Materials in this interactive graph of future profit estimates. It's nice to see that Rayonier Advanced Materials shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 19% over the last year. However, the TSR over five years, coming in at 42% per year, is even more impressive. The pessimistic view would be that be that the stock has its best days behind it, but on the other hand the price might simply be moderating while the business itself continues to execute. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. For instance, we've identified 1 warning sign for Rayonier Advanced Materials that you should be aware of. Rayonier Advanced Materials is not the only stock insiders are buying.
