Lowe and Mead homer, Rays beat Blue Jays 3-1 for third straight win

Brandon Lowe and Curtis Mead homered, Drew Rasmussen pitched six scoreless innings in a four-hitter and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Friday night for only their third three-game winning streak this season. Lowe put the Rays ahead in the third against Eric Lauer (1-1) with his team-leading ninth home run, a two-run drive. Mead homered in the fourth. Rasmussen (3-4) allowed four hits and two walks. Mason Montgomery, Manuel Rodriguez, Edwin Uceta and Pete Fairbanks combined for hitless relief, with Fairbanks working around a walk for his ninth save in 10 chances. Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Daulton Varsho, the top three hitters in Toronto's batting order, went 0 for 11 with a walk. Rays RHP Shane Baz (3-3, 5.33 ERA) and Blue Jays RHP Jose Berrios (1-1, 4.19 ERA) start Saturday.

Taylor Walls hits sacrifice fly in 9th as Rays rally to beat Astros 3-2

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Taylor Walls hit a game-ending sacrifice fly and the Tampa Bay Rays rallied to beat the Houston Astros 3-2 on Tuesday night. The Rays trailed 2-0 until Jonathan Aranda's two-run single in the eighth inning tied the score. Christian Morel then led off the ninth with a walk against Kaleb Ort (1-1) and advanced to third on pinch-hitter Brandon Lowe's double to left-center. After Josh Lowe popped out, Walls hit a fly ball to drive in Morel to give the Rays their 12th win in 30 games at Steinbrenner Field, their temporary home this season. Manuel Rodriguez (1-2) pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win. Astros left-hander Brandon Walter, making his first major league start, pitched five strong innings in his Houston debut. Jake Meyers hit an RBI double in the second for the Astros, and Isaac Paredes had a solo homer in the third against his former team to make it 2-0. Rays starter Zach Littell allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings. He struck out six. Key moment With the Rays trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth, with one out and runners on first and second, Kameron Misner and Jose Caballero pulled off a double steal to set up Aranda's tying single to right field. Key stat Starting for the first time after making nine relief appearances for Bostohn in 2023, Walter gave up three hits and struck out five. Up next Astros RHP Hunter Brown (6–2, 1.43 ERA) goes against Rays RHP Taj Bradley (3–3, 4.80 ERA) in the series finale on Wednesday. ___ AP MLB:

Junior Caminero's ninth inning grand slam lifts Rays over Jays 11-9

Junior Caminero's ninth inning grand slam bounced off the scoreboard on the third deck of Rogers Centre to hand the Tampa Bay Rays a 11-9 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. Chandler Simpson's RBI single earlier in the ninth tied the game 7-7 for Tampa Bay (19-22) and helped set the stage for Caminero's first grand slam in Major League Baseball. Brandon Lowe had a two-run single and Jonathan Aranda smashed a two-run homer as the Rays jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third. Danny Jansen added a home run in the seventh and Kameron Misner scored in the sixth when the Blue Jays caught Taylor Walls stealing but first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. dropped the ball. Shane Baz struck out six over 4⅔ innings but allowed three runs on four hits and two walks. Manuel Rodriguez, Garrett Cleavinger, Edwin Uceta (3-1), Pete Fairbanks and Mason Montgomery came on in relief. Daulton Varsho's three-run blast in the eighth inning, his second home run of the night, gave Toronto (20-21) a 7-6 lead. Varsho also had a solo shot in the fourth as the Blue Jays had their four-game win streak snapped. Bo Bichette's two-run homer in the third barely made it over the wall but kept the Blue Jays in the game. Ernie Clement's solo shot to lead off the seventh was his first home run of the season. Bichette and Guerrero had back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the ninth to cut Tampa Bay's lead to two runs but Toronto could not complete the comeback. Jose Berrios gave up six runs over 5⅓ innings, striking out four but giving up five hits and three walks in a no decision. Mason Fluharty, Chad Green, Jeff Hoffman and Braydon Fisher came out of the Blue Jays bullpen. Hoffman (3-2) took the loss after giving up the grand slam to Caminero. Rays: Jansen was cheered by fans at Rogers Centre when Tampa's lineup was announced and again with each at bat. He spent his first six years in Major League Baseball with Toronto before the Blue Jays traded him to the Boston Red Sox midway through last season. The crowd was relatively quiet as he rounded the bases following his home run in the seventh. Blue Jays: Varsho missed the first 28 games of Toronto's season as he recovered from shoulder surgery in September. Although he's hitting just .229 in his 10 games this season, he has five home runs and has driven in 11 runs. Initially a ground-rule double, the umpires sent Bichette home, calling his hit to deep left a homer. Although the Rays asked for a video challenge, the call on the field stood. Jansen's home run was the first hit Fluharty had ever given up to a right-handed hitter. Chris Bassitt (3-2) will take the mound for Toronto in the second game of its series with Tampa Bay. The Rays will counter with Ryan Pepiot (2-4).

Jankowski drives in winning run as Tampa Bay beats Milwaukee 3-2 after historic rain delays

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Travis Jankowski had a pair of hits including the winning RBI single in the ninth inning in Tampa Bay's 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday after the first home field weather delays in Rays teams history. Jankowski singled off closer Trevor Megill to bring home rookie Kameron Misner, who was walked by Grant Anderson (1-2) and stole second. The hit might have produced a close play at the plate but the ball snuck under the glove of left fielder Isaac Collins. Misner scored two of Tampa Bay's three runs. A journeyman who spent spring training with both the Cubs and White Sox before the Rays acquired him last month, Jankowski also gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly. Pete Fairbanks (3-1) pitched the ninth. Jackson Chourio put Milwaukee on the board with a first-pitch solo homer off Taj Bradley in the third. In the fifth, Joey Ortiz snuck a solo homer inside the right-field foul pole, his first home run since Sept. 20. Key moment Following a 38-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fifth, pitchers from both teams combined to retire 19 straight until the Brewers' ninth, when consecutive batters reached on errors. After Fairbanks walked Rhys Hoskins to load the bases, Fairbanks got a popup and flyout to preserve the tie. Key stat Precipitation delayed the first pitch by 27 minutes, the first home rain delay in Tampa Bay's 28-year franchise history. The skies opened again in the bottom of the fifth. The Rays are temporarily playing at Steinbrenner Field after Hurricane Milton shredded Tropicana Field's roof in October. Fans were given free ponchos to mark the occasion. Up next In the series finale on Sunday, Chad Patrick (2-3, 3.08 ERA) starts for Milwaukee against Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen (1-3, 3.09). ___ AP MLB:
