Justin Gatlin, Rodney Green heap praise on 'Mr Consistency' Akani Simbine

FILE - South Africa's Akani Simbine celebrates winning the men's 100m event during the IAAF Diamond League athletics meeting in Xiamen, China. Image: Adek Berry / AFP Following yet another sub-10 second run at the Diamond League event in China on Saturday, Akani Simbine solidified the claims that he is currently the fastest man in the world. The South African star backed up his recent victory in Botswana when he stormed to victory in the 100m in Xiamen on Saturday in a field that included Kenya star Ferdinand Omanyala, Botswana's 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo, American speedster Christian Coleman and 60m world indoor champion Jeremiah Azu of Britain. Simbine clocked a time of 9.99. While it was short of the 9.90 world lead he clocked in Botswana, he again showed his class. 'The race felt good. I stumbled a bit after the 60, so I had to catch myself, but happened to catch the wind while catching the win,' Simbine told the Diamond League website afterwards. 'Keep going with the momentum... I am now going back to the basics, (and) putting myself in a position to learn.' Former US great Justin Gatlin and former Bahamas sprinter Rodney Green praised Simbine for his longevity and consistency on their Ready Set Go podcast after he delivered a sub-10 second 100m for the 11th consecutive year. 'That's why they call him Mr Consistency. He is consistently in every final, in medal contention almost every time he competes,' Green said. 'He won the bronze in the indoor final this year, something that he doesn't really compete in a lot. I think that will transition him to the outdoors. Him and his coach have a plan … 'by hell or by high water, we are getting on this podium'. The podium Green is referring to is the 100m event at the World Championships to be held in Tokyo, Japan from September 13-21. The concern with Simbine has always been peaking too early because the South African season starts much earlier than those in the United States and Europe due to our December to February summer season.

David Bowie Reaches A Milestone That Few — If Any — Artists Ever Have

David Bowie earns his one-hundredth entry on the Official Physical Albums chart with Ready Set Go, a ... More live album that debuts at No. 8. UNITED KINGDOM - OCTOBER 03: Pop Legend David Bowie In Concert, At The Hammersmith Appollo, In London, Pic Shows: David Bowie (Photo by) For most musicians, landing even one charting album is a career-defining win. Scoring multiple successes is the kind of thing only the biggest stars manage. Then there's David Bowie, one of the most celebrated and prolific icons in British music history. Years after his passing, the rocker continues to debut new projects on various rankings in that nation, and this week, he hits a milestone so massive that very few artists have even come close. Bowie returns to the charts in the United Kingdom this week with Ready Set Go - Live Riverside Studios, a live album recorded decades ago and only now made available for the first time. The set was issued as an exclusive Record Store Day release and clearly struck a chord with longtime collectors. It quickly sold enough copies to debut inside the top 10 on a trio of tallies, helping the late legend make history once again. Ready Set Go opens at No. 8 on the Official Physical Albums chart, a ranking that includes only CDs, vinyl, cassettes, and other tangible formats. That debut isn't just another win for Bowie — it's his one hundredth placement on that specific list. That huge figure includes everything from full-length studio efforts to live recordings, reissues, compilations, and other unique projects. Few — if any — other musicians have reached triple digits on this particular roster. Throughout his unparalleled career, Bowie racked up an enormous number of top 10s on the Official Physical Albums chart. In total, 33 of his titles have broken into that uppermost tier. He first landed on the tally in 1994 with The Ultimate Singles Collection, and just months later, he doubled his presence with Santa Monica '72. Since then, the floodgates have remained open. Bowie and his estate have kept up a steady stream of new releases, reissues, and special editions, which all became bestsellers, especially on physical formats. Ready Set Go is the first of his projects to reach the list in 2025, but he claimed two additional top 10s in 2024. Ready Set Go doesn't only debut on the Official Physical Albums chart. It also launches at No. 8 on the Official Albums Sales list, which ranks bestselling projects across all physical and digital formats. The limited-edition release also opens at No. 10 on the Official Vinyl Albums tally. While it makes a solid showing across genre- and format-specific rankings, Ready Set Go barely misses the top 40 on the Official Albums chart, the U.K.'s main consumption-based tally. It starts off at No. 44 this frame. Bowie has appeared on that list 98 times, and it seems only a matter of time before he cracks 100 bestsellers there as well.

David Bowie Hits The Top 10 With An Album Fans Have Been Waiting Decades For

David Bowie's Ready Set Go – Live at Riverside Studios debuts on four U.K. charts, hitting the top ... More 10 on three and continuing his posthumous chart dominance. (Photo by Ebet Roberts/Redferns) David Bowie may be gone, but when it comes to the music charts in the United Kingdom, he's never really left. The late rock legend continues to make regular appearances thanks to a steady stream of vinyl drops and bestselling and streaming-centric compilations that pull from his vast and varied catalog. This week, Bowie is back on multiple tallies in his home country with Ready Set Go - Live at Riverside Studios, a long-awaited release that's been a favorite among fans for decades, even before it was officially available to own. The recently-issued live album is new to four U.K. rankings this frame. Ready Set Go breaks into the top 10 on three of those lists and nearly does the same on a fourth, proving once again – as if there was ever really any question – that there's still major demand for Bowie's work. Ready Set Go earns its highest placements on the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts. On both tallies, it kicks off at No. 8. It also lands on the Official Vinyl Albums list, debuting at No. 10. The fact that a Bowie offering, released nearly a decade after his death, can launch inside the top 10, is quite the feat. Finally, the live set makes an appearance on the Official Albums chart, the most important music ranking in the country for full-lengths. The list blends pure sales with streaming data to measure overall popularity. There, Ready Set Go starts at No. 44, just missing the top 40 cutoff. Bowie has now earned at least two dozen top 10 placements on the Official Albums Sales chart alone, and his total placements on the Official Vinyl Albums ranking recently crossed 50. Few artists have built a posthumous discography as formidable as Bowie's, and his list of wins keeps growing. Ready Set Go was recorded on September 8, 2003, when Bowie performed a set at Riverside Studios in London. The concert was beamed via satellite to cinemas around the world, which was a novelty at the time and a major event for fans. Reportedly, 50,000 people tuned in to witness the event live. Now, more than 20 years later, that performance is finally available as an album, on both vinyl and CD. It was released for Record Store Day 2025, and it seems it's one of the big winners of this year's event.
