EXCLUSIVE New Golden Bachelor star's future on the show revealed amid calls to FIRE him for ageist comments
The upcoming second season of The Golden Bachelor has been thrown into turmoil just weeks before filming was due to commence. Rumors are swirling that leading man Mel Owens, 66, is being replaced on the show after sparking backlash from Bachelor fans for ageist comments he made in a recent interview. Owens, a former NFL star, shocked longtime viewers of the show when he said that he wouldn't date a woman over 60. The fallout from his comments led to some fans threatening to boycott the new season. Bachelor blogger Reality Steve then reported that the 'negative publicity' around Owens' comments had led to the network axing him from the series and that his replacement would be announced soon. However, can confirm that Owens has not been replaced and the season will go ahead as planned. The backlash started last week when Owens recalled his initial meeting with Bachelor producers during an interview on the MGoBlue podcast. 'They ask me, 'What's your preference?' So I just said [ages] 45 to 60, just being honest,' he said. However, while having lunch with the show's executive producer, he thought better of it and said, 'You know, if they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them.' When reminded that the name of the show was The Golden Bachelor, Owens said he was told, ''You can't use the word cut.' 'I go, "Well, that's an NFL term,"' he said. He then shared his other demands for the women. 'They asked me, "What is my profile?" Well, [the women] have got to be fit because I'm staying in shape and work out and stuff,' he said 'And I told them, "Try to stay away from the artificial hips and the wigs, you know, that kind of stuff, right?"' Numerous fans of the franchise have made their feelings quite clear about what Owens said. 'Based on his podcast interview I won't be watching or supporting. We need to stop supporting men who think they're so great that they won't date women their own age. This dude needs to go back home,' wrote one. 'This is so sad. I can't believe [producers] knew this man didn't want a golden lady and cast him anyway,' wrote another. Even Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause weighed in on the drama. 'We love the Golden Bachelor because of how wholesome it is,' she wrote on Instgram, adding, 'This type of energy will ruin it.'

Mel Owens Reportedly Fired from 'Golden Bachelor'—Here's Why
Looks like Mel Owens may no longer be ABC's new Golden Bachelor. Longtime spoiler source Reality Steve reports that the burgeoning reality star is "out" after controversial comments he made about not dating older women on the show. "Mel Owens is OUT as the Golden Bachelor due to recent negative publicity surrounding his June 4th podcast appearance," Reality Steve wrote on Twitter. "Expect an announcement soon incl who is going to replace him. Haven't heard a name yet on who that is. Will update if/when I hear." In case you missed it and/or blocked it out, Mel (who is 66) revealed his "cut off age" during the In the Trenches podcast, saying "It's blind up until they get out of the limo. But they asked me, 'what's your preferences?' So, I just said 45 to 60, just being honest. And then the process went, and I was selected, right? And then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, 'you know, if they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them.' Oh Mel, you can't, you know, this is not the 'Silver Bachelor.' It's the 'Golden Bachelor.' He goes, but they're going to be hot, don't worry about it. Don't worry about it." Mel's comments caused a lot of backlash, with many viewers insisting that he's recast. While ABC hasn't made a formal announcement, it looks like they're doing just that based on Reality Steve's reporting tuned. Oh, and for what it's worth, previous Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner was 72 when he was cast, and his winner, Theresa Nist, was 70.

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Spoiler alert! This story discusses rumors about the end of The Bachelor Season 29, including who Grant Ellis allegedly proposes to. Turn back now if you want to avoid MAJOR SPOILERS. New love is in the air, as Grant Ellis is set to kick off the 29th season of The Bachelor on the 2025 TV schedule. After getting eliminated before Hometown dates on Jenn Tran's season of The Bachelorette, the New Jersey day trader was chosen as the second Black man to lead the dating franchise's flagship series. The season may just be getting started, but filming actually wrapped back in October, so if you can't wait to find out which four women get to bring Grant home or to see who he proposes to in the end, we've got The Bachelor Season 29 spoilers right here. Twenty-five women will exit the limos on January 27 to kick off Grant Ellis' journey to find love, and that's quite frankly a lot of people to keep up with. Many Bachelor Nation fans prefer to know which women make it the farthest on the season in order to focus attention on them. Knowing how the season ends doesn't need to ruin the experience; it can enhance it by allowing you to know whose love story you're watching. As per usual, Reality Steve is reporting the alleged winner, so if you want to know who that is, check out his Instagram post below: It looks like congratulations are in order for Juliana Pasquarosa, a 28-year-old client service associate from Massachusetts, as she is reportedly engaged to Grant Ellis. According to her official ABC bio, Juliana is bubbly, outgoing and not afraid to speak her mind. She was looking for a man with a good heart and strong ambition and who loves to hang out with family. Hopefully she's found that with Grant! Juliana Pasquarosa's bio also mentions that she isn't afraid of heights, but she has no interest in jumping off of something high. Who's placing bets on how many weeks before we see The Bachelor producers make her jump from a high distance? According to Reality Steve's post, Litia Garr, a venture capitalist from Salt Lake City, Utah, finishes the season at runner-up. His spoiler blog also reveals the other members of Grant Ellis' top 4: Dina Lupancu (pictured below, left), an attorney from Chicago, was allegedly sent home on Hometown week, while Chicago tech engineer Zoe McGrady (below, right) got the boot during Fantasy Suites. Reality Steve has been reporting on the ending of The Bachelor and its spinoffs for the majority of the franchise's 23-year run. He does not reveal his sources, but suffice it to say he's right more times than not. Hopefully this little spoiler will help to enhance your viewing pleasure as Grant Ellis begins what looks like a great season on his quest to find his forever person on The Bachelor. Season 29 premieres at 8 p.m. ET Monday, January 27, on ABC and can be streamed the next day with a Hulu subscription.
