May 18 - Will Benson and Rece Hinds each launched solo home runs, while seven pitchers combined to throw nine solid innings as the host Cincinnati Reds posted a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday. Brent Suter served as the Reds' opener, throwing three scoreless innings, followed by Lyon Richardson, who allowed one run across two frames. Luis Mey (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless sixth for Cincinnati, who clinched the three-game series and won its third straight game. Cincinnati closer Emilio Pagan threw a perfect ninth, recording his 11th save. Cleveland starter Slade Cecconi (0-1) allowed three runs on five hits across five innings, issuing three walks and striking out eight in his first appearance of the season. Daniel Schneemann's solo home run accounted for the Guardians' offense. Nolan Jones had two hits for Cleveland, which dropped its third straight. Brent Suter allowed four hits in three innings before five relievers combined to allow a run on four hits for the Reds, including a 1-2-3 sixth inning by Luis Mey (1-0). Lyon Richardson relieved Suter and allowed Daniel Schneemann's solo homer, his sixth, leading off the fifth to put the Guardians ahead 1-0. Slade Cecconi (0-1) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday for the Guardians after recovering from a left oblique strain he suffered during spring training. Cecconi allowed just two hits through four innings, but Benson tied the score 1-1 with his third homer leading off the fifth. Benson has homered in three straight games for the first time in his career. In the sixth, TJ Friedl doubled and scored on Santiago Espinal's single to put the Reds ahead. Scott Blewett (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win. The Braves forced extra innings with a two-run rally in the ninth inning. Eli White bunted home Albies with the first run and Michael Harris II drove in pinch runner Eddie Rosario with a single to left field. Harris was 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Taylor Rogers (1-1) took the loss. Rookie Rece Hinds hit a tie-breaking two-run homer off Raisel Iglesias in the ninth inning to give the Reds a 4-2 lead.
