Randolph County hosts ‘Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs'
ELKINS, (WBOY) — Randolph County hosted its annual 'Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs' event event on Saturday, offering an introduction to some outdoor activities for kids.
The community came out to show kids what fun they can have without having to use substances with a special focus on the outdoors. Local wildlife and nature organizations came out to teach kids about the local environment and recreation opportunities.

Event organizer Chris Lee explained why the event is so important.
'We live in this wonderful region where we have incredible recreation opportunities right outside of town,' Lee said. 'So, we wanna make sure that kids know about that and understand that that is a far better lifestyle than some of the more nefarious things that you can fall into.'
In 2024, event organizers estimate that at least 600 kids came to the event. Lee also said that they plan to host this event each year indefinitely, and thanked the community for its support, including sponsors Reckart Logistics, Elkins Fordland, Randolph County Commission, and Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission.
