Men who buy sex could be jailed for six months under prostitution crackdown law
Alba MSP Ash Regan said she is calling time on the 'modern slavery' of prostitution with her new Bill. Men who buy sex could be jailed for six months under plans to crackdown on prostitution. Alba MSP Ash Regan said her new Bill would tackle head on the 'modern slavery' of prostitution. She said: 'I don't want to live in a country where men can order women like a pizza.' Prostitutes can currently be charged under the criminal law while men can fall foul of kerb crawling curbs. But Regan's bill would turn the tables by criminalising the purchase of sexual acts while decriminalising those who sell sexual services. She wants her bill, which would hand down fines of up to £10,000 and jail sentences of up to six months, to pass before the next Holyrood election. Pope Francis cause of death revealed as Vatican releases death certificate
The Vatican has revealed how Pope Francis died at age 88 on Easter Monday - just a day after greeting crowds in Vatican City. Pope Francis died from a stroke and subsequent irreversible heart failure, the Vatican has announced. Francis has been remembered as someone full of compassion, mercy and 'irrepressible hope' as Catholics came together to mourn the death of a pontiff hailed by the King and other world leaders. The head of the Catholic church, who died aged 88 on Easter Monday just a day after greeting crowds in Vatican City, drew tributes for his strong advocacy for the poor and marginalised. The Pope was described by the King, whom he met in recent weeks, as someone who had "profoundly touched the lives of so many". Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said Francis had been "a Pope for the poor, the downtrodden and the forgotten". At a mass in London in the Pope's honour on Monday evening, the leader of Catholics in England and Wales said while there is a "sadness of loss", there remains a "confidence of faith and hope". Cardinal Vincent Nichols told worshippers at Westminster Cathedral: "We know a voice has fallen silent, a voice that's been heard in every corner of the world, a voice of warm encouragement and sharp challenge, expressing both the love of God and a deep love of our shared humanity. "This voice is silent, for a more authoritative voice has spoken - that of his heavenly father, calling him home to be with his lord and master forever."
