Sullivan County celebrates four Recovery Court graduates
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Four graduates were recognized on Thursday for completing the Sullivan County Felony Recovery Court Program. The Felony Recovery Court program is a treatment-focused program for individuals with non-violent offenses who struggle with substance use disorders. The program places a strong emphasis on accountability and responsibility as essential elements of the recovery process. Graduates underwent intensive outpatient treatments, completed community service and paid off all fines. Kingsport PD: Burglaries down 26% in 2024 Judge Jim Goodwin presented certificates to the four graduates who completed the 18-24 month-long program. He said the program makes a difference in Sullivan County families. '[It] gets people out of the jail,' Goodwin said. 'It gets them back on track. It keeps folks out of prison. We've had participants who didn't have their children, who got their children back. Some folks [who] have jobs for the first time in their life. So they go from committing crime and being in the throes of addiction to leading productive, taxpaying lives.' Goodwin expressed pride in the graduates, many of whom entered the program without prior guidance, structure, or a supportive person to acknowledge their recovery efforts. 'Incredibly proud. Incredibly proud,' he said. 'And I tell them this all the time, because a lot of these folks have never had an adult one or a person of authority actually say, 'hey, you're doing a great job. I'm proud of you. You know, keep up the good work.' It means a lot.' To learn more about Sullivan County's Recovery Court Program, visit Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. District Two Recovery Court holds gala to raise money and awareness
MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Many people gathered for dinner and fellowship at the 2nd District Recovery Court Gala Thursday night. The Recovery Court Program is important for the people who live in Martin, Washington, Beaufort, Tyrell and Hyde Counties. 'What is it is a program that is designed to address the needs of those who are suffering from substance use disorder and have a high need or high risk. It is a very intensive outpatient program in a court based setting. We have groups where they meet and court sessions where they have to come in. If they are doing good, they receive incentives, if they're having problems and not following the rules, there are sanctions.' said Drew Robinson, Martin County Sheriff. The program has been in District Two since 2018. Newly appointed Martin County Sheriff, Drew Robinson, said that it's a beneficial program for helping people recover. 'What I can tell you is that I've been in law enforcement for 29 years now, and this recovery court is the best program that I have seen when it comes to addressing the needs of those who are suffering from substance abuse disorder and getting them from that state where they are using substances to where they are a productive member of society.' Donations help this program thrive and are always needed and accepted. 'We operate off grants and we don't get any funding from the state, so everything we do- the treatment, transportation, incentives, salary for our coordinator all comes from donations. We cover a huge geographical area in district two. We have to have the donations to be self sufficient.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
