Red Oak Fire Department urges people to stay safe as Summer approaches
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — June is National Safety Month and the Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department is reminding everyone of some hazards that they see the most.
One of the leading causes of fire during this time of the year is fireworks. 'Use legal fireworks, secondly is make sure hat when you light fireworks, you're not around trees, buildings, dry grass,' Assistant Chief of Red Oak Michael Brown said. 'It is one of the larger causes of wild land fires.'
With many people enjoying the pool during the summer heat, Brown also encourages being cautious of lightning. 'We have thunderstorms. And so I want people to think about being safe during a thunderstorm. And a big part about that is avoiding lightning.' It is recommended to get indoors as quickly as possible when thunder or lightning is in the area.
