More local sports news here The #5-seeded Court Cats had never won a conference tournament match in the modern era before their win over # 4-seeded LSU Shreveport. They followed up with an upset over #1 seed LSU Alexandria to make the finals. Their run ended in the championship round, losing to the #6-seeded Our Lady of the Lake Saints in the finals. A win would have guaranteed them a position in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Sports) tournament. LSUS Guard Taj Anderson Named RRAC Newcomer of the Year

Story by: LSU Shreveport Athletics SHREVEPORT, La. – LSUS standout guard Taj Anderson has been named the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Newcomer of the Year, capping off a dominant debut season in the league. Anderson, the RRAC's leading scorer, has been a force on both ends of the floor, averaging 20.2 points per game on an impressive 51.9% shooting from the field and a blistering 44.7% from beyond the arc. A dynamic playmaker and elite scorer, Anderson has been recognized as the RRAC Player of the Week three times—twice for his offensive firepower and once for his defensive prowess. His all-around game has propelled the Pilots throughout the season, as he also contributes 3.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.1 steals per contest. His season has been highlighted by two electrifying performances: a 53-point explosion against Paul Quinn College and a 41-point outing against Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Anderson's ability to take over games has made him one of the most feared players in the RRAC, showcasing a rare blend of efficiency, athleticism, and defensive intensity. As LSUS gears up for the postseason, Anderson's impact will be crucial in the Pilots' pursuit of championship success. LSUS will go head-to-head with Texas A&M University-Texarkana in the first round of the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament. Tip-off is set for Friday, February 28, at 8 a.m. at Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria, Louisiana. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
