Liverpool supporters group call for termination of new multi-year deal - 'We are livid'

There's been substantial backlash from Liverpool supporters group Kop Outs over the club's newly inked sponsorship deal with Visit Maldives, in light of the country's human rights record. The Reds' announcement of a multi-year partnership with Visit Maldives as their official tourism partner last Thursday didn't sit well. Kop Outs voiced their "profound anger and disappointment" in a visceral statement about the deal they view as a blatant contradiction to Liverpool FC's vaunted stance on equality and inclusion. The group has issued a call to the club for engaging dialogue with their representatives and additional fan cohorts to talk through the issue and solidify the Reds' public assurance towards upholding LGBT+ and broader human rights principles. Paul Amann, the chairperson of Kop Outs, conveyed his disbelief: "We are livid that after celebrating LGBT+ History Month and five years of Red Together, LFC has chosen to side with an oppressor of human rights. Kop Outs argue that Liverpool "are effectively partnering with the Maldivian government and thereby aligning themselves with their views and laws", citing it as an instance of "sportswashing". The Kop Outs' statement further read: "Maldives' treatment of LGBT+ individuals is deeply concerning. Same-sex relations are criminalized, and LGBT+ people face systemic discrimination and persecution, imprisonment, fines and even lashings. This sponsorship effectively endorses a regime that actively violates the fundamental human rights of its citizens. "There are deeply concerning reports detailing the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Maldives. These demonstrate how the Maldivian government have failed to prevent a resurgence of the practice. "The LFC Foundation has a detailed safeguarding policy that references FGM, yet this deal with Visit Maldives may leave Liverpool FC complicit with a state that fails to protect women and girls from this harmful practice." Finally, they concluded: "Liverpool FC, a club with a rich history of social justice and a global fanbase that includes countless LGBT+ supporters, should not be associated with such a regime. This partnership tarnishes the club's reputation and undermines its commitment to 'You'll Never Walk Alone.'". "We, Kop Outs, will not stand by while our club profits from a partnership that supports oppression. We urge all Liverpool fans and human rights advocates to stand with us in condemning this decision."

Liverpool's Taylor Hinds sexually harassed by fan during Arsenal match

Liverpool defender Taylor Hinds has revealed she suffered sexual harassment from a supporter during Sunday's FA Cup tie with Arsenal. Offensive comments were made while Hinds was receiving treatment for a head injury. The defender and one of her team-mates made match officials aware of the abuse and the supporter was removed from the stadium by the stewarding team at Borehamwood. The incident marred what was a memorable victory for Liverpool, who progressed to the semi-finals after a 78th-minute own goal from Daphne van Domselaar. Hinds said in a statement: 'Yesterday was an intense game and emotions were high, including the fans, but that did not give anyone the right to subject me to that kind of behaviour while down from a head injury. 'I am there doing the job I love and to carry on playing with that in the back of my mind was hard. All current women's players and I are playing the sport we love and should be able to do so without fearing such occurrences. Every young girl out there hoping and dreaming of becoming a footballer should know that she can do so safely and happily. 'I will not let the actions of one individual ruin what was a fantastic day for the team and our supporters, but it is not OK and I was determined to make a stand. 'It was hard for my mum and dad to not realise what was going on and to find out later what was being shouted at their daughter during a game of football. 'I'm doing fine and would like to thank my team-mates and everyone at Liverpool for having my back, as well as the match officials for their swift actions, and everyone at Arsenal for their assertive actions and backing. Together we can continue to make our sport better, both now and for the years to come.' A Liverpool spokesperson added: 'LFC condemns all forms of discrimination and we continue to work all year round through our Red Together programme to campaign against it. All players, now and in the future, should have the knowledge that our pitches and stadiums are safe places to play football. 'We thank Taylor for immediately raising this issue, her team-mates and everyone at Arsenal for their swift actions. We will fully support the ongoing investigation.' Arsenal said in a statement: 'We are investigating inappropriate comments made by an individual towards Liverpool's Taylor Hinds during our FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday. The supporter was ejected from the ground during the game after the incident was brought to our attention. 'Our investigation is ongoing with relevant stakeholders, and we offer our full support to Taylor throughout this time. We have a zero-tolerance approach to abuse and discrimination of any kind and remain committed to taking strong action against such behaviour.' Liverpool captain speaks out after being subjected to 'sexually inappropriate' comment

Liverpool defender Taylor Hinds has spoken out after being subjected to sexually inappropriate comments during Sunday's Women's FA Cup win over Arsenal. Hinds reported the comments to officials, having heard the inappropriate remarks while down with a head injury. Both she and a teammate went to the match officials, who informed the stewarding team. Those stewards acted swiftly to remove an individual from the stadium, with Liverpool branding the incident as "unacceptable" on its website. Speaking on Monday, Reds captain Hinds conceded it was tough to continue after hearing the comments. Hinds said to the club website: 'Yesterday was an intense game, and emotions were high, including the fans, but that did not give anyone the right to subject me to that kind of behavior while down from a head injury. I am there doing the job I love and to carry on playing with that in the back of my mind was hard.
