Liverpool's Taylor Hinds sexually harassed by fan during Arsenal match

Yahoo12-03-2025

Liverpool defender Taylor Hinds has revealed she suffered sexual harassment from a supporter during Sunday's FA Cup tie with Arsenal.
Offensive comments were made while Hinds was receiving treatment for a head injury. The defender and one of her team-mates made match officials aware of the abuse and the supporter was removed from the stadium by the stewarding team at Borehamwood.
The incident marred what was a memorable victory for Liverpool, who progressed to the semi-finals after a 78th-minute own goal from Daphne van Domselaar.
Hinds said in a statement: 'Yesterday was an intense game and emotions were high, including the fans, but that did not give anyone the right to subject me to that kind of behaviour while down from a head injury.
'I am there doing the job I love and to carry on playing with that in the back of my mind was hard. All current women's players and I are playing the sport we love and should be able to do so without fearing such occurrences. Every young girl out there hoping and dreaming of becoming a footballer should know that she can do so safely and happily.
'I will not let the actions of one individual ruin what was a fantastic day for the team and our supporters, but it is not OK and I was determined to make a stand.
'It was hard for my mum and dad to not realise what was going on and to find out later what was being shouted at their daughter during a game of football.
'I'm doing fine and would like to thank my team-mates and everyone at Liverpool for having my back, as well as the match officials for their swift actions, and everyone at Arsenal for their assertive actions and backing. Together we can continue to make our sport better, both now and for the years to come.'
A Liverpool spokesperson added: 'LFC condemns all forms of discrimination and we continue to work all year round through our Red Together programme to campaign against it. All players, now and in the future, should have the knowledge that our pitches and stadiums are safe places to play football.
'We thank Taylor for immediately raising this issue, her team-mates and everyone at Arsenal for their swift actions. We will fully support the ongoing investigation.'
Arsenal said in a statement: 'We are investigating inappropriate comments made by an individual towards Liverpool's Taylor Hinds during our FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday. The supporter was ejected from the ground during the game after the incident was brought to our attention.
'Our investigation is ongoing with relevant stakeholders, and we offer our full support to Taylor throughout this time. We have a zero-tolerance approach to abuse and discrimination of any kind and remain committed to taking strong action against such behaviour.'

Liverpool ‘Interested' in Premier League Winger as Potential Luis Diaz Replacement

Liverpool Transfer Plans: Hughes Eyes Mitoma if Diaz Saga Ends in Departure Liverpool's transfer window is shaping up to be anything but straightforward. While new sporting director Richard Hughes is wasting little time laying foundations for Arne Slot's second season, the Luis Díaz situation is proving a decisive factor in dictating summer priorities. Advertisement According to The Athletic, the club is exploring the idea of moving for Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma should Díaz depart. But as it stands, no significant developments on Díaz's contract have emerged, and Liverpool remain firm that only a substantial bid would lead to a sale. The interest from the Saudi Pro League lingers, and if that intensifies, it could trigger a chain reaction that ends with Mitoma arriving at Anfield. 'It promises to be an anxious summer transfer window for supporters accustomed to revelling in his wizardry,' the report noted. That line could apply to both Mitoma and Díaz. Photo: IMAGO Style Fit and Tactical Compatibility Mitoma would bring with him a skill set tailor-made for Arne Slot's system. The Japanese winger is well-versed in high pressing and structured, possession-based football under Brighton's Fabian Hürzeler, which mirrors many principles Slot introduced at Feyenoord and has already embedded at Liverpool. Advertisement His Premier League experience is invaluable. In 88 league appearances since arriving in 2022, Mitoma has delivered 20 goals and 13 assists. Not elite numbers, but certainly enough to suggest he could flourish in a higher-functioning attacking unit. 'Mitoma had no interest in a move to the Saudi Pro League when Brighton rejected offers from Al Nassr of £54m and £61m in the January transfer window,' The Athletic reported, making it clear that the 28-year-old's ambitions lie firmly within elite European competition. He himself added, 'That is one goal, but if I focus on what's in front of me and do it right, I believe I can play in it,' when asked about the Champions League. That ambition might just align perfectly with Liverpool's offer. What Must Happen First However, Mitoma won't be walking through the door until Díaz's situation is resolved. If no club meets Liverpool's high valuation of the Colombian, the Reds are unlikely to pursue a like-for-like winger. There are also internal solutions. Cody Gakpo is one, having contributed 18 goals and six assists across 2701 minutes last season. Arne Slot may trust his countryman to shoulder more responsibility on the left. Photo: IMAGO Yet, should Díaz move on, Liverpool could pounce. Brighton's failure to qualify for Europe may push Mitoma to seek a new challenge. And while his contract runs until 2027, this could be the summer when his future is truly decided. International Influence and Squad Integration The presence of Wataru Endo in Liverpool's midfield could also be influential. The two Japanese internationals know each other well, and that familiarity could help Mitoma settle quickly in a demanding environment. Advertisement For Liverpool, the move would signal a clear intent to reinforce a title-winning squad with players entering their prime, already tested in the Premier League and capable of adapting instantly. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis It's no surprise to see Liverpool heavily linked with Kaoru Mitoma. Arne Slot has already proven he's not afraid to build his system around dynamic, intelligent players who know how to function within structured attacking patterns, and Mitoma fits that blueprint perfectly. The key issue remains the Díaz situation. Most fans would agree the Colombian has been inconsistent in terms of output, and if Liverpool receive a serious offer from the Saudi Pro League, the timing might be right to cash in and reinvest. Mitoma would offer more directness and perhaps greater positional discipline, and there's a sense he hasn't hit his full stride at Brighton yet. Advertisement Some will argue Gakpo deserves his shot as a starter on the left, and that's a fair point given his impressive stats from last season. But adding depth and variety is essential, especially with a Champions League campaign looming. Imagine a front line where Gakpo, Mitoma and Jota can all rotate, keeping intensity high throughout a long season. Financially, Liverpool will need to be smart. Brighton don't sell cheap, and Mitoma's value will be protected by his contract length. But if Díaz goes and Mitoma becomes available, Hughes and Slot could do far worse than moving decisively.

Two Liverpool stars receive MASSIVE Club World Cup offers

Liverpool have a decision to make as two of their stars received massive approaches from a FIFA Club World Cup team. The Reds are juggling a lot right now. Liverpool are trying to make a lot happen right now. Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi have been signed, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher both left for fees. Advertisement But those completed deals have left no rest. Florian Wirtz is wanted and the Reds are deep in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen. They're also pushing to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, however. Then there's a potential deal for a centre-forward. And now there's even more on their plate. Liverpool have seen two stars receive major approaches, it seems. Liverpool stars receive Al-Hilal bids Foot Mercato reports that both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have been approached by Al-Hilal. The Saudi Arabian side are desperate to find a forward for the FIFA Club World Cup. Of course, Al-Hilal also tried to sign Nunez back in January. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed an offer of around £70m, though Liverpool rejected it. Advertisement They were always expected to return this summer and it appears they have. But could they try to sign two of Liverpool's title-winning forward line? There's apparently also interest in Diaz, which is new. The Colombian has certainly been linked with Saudi Arabia but it was always said to be Al-Nassr. They're looking to snap-up someone, however, and Diaz is on that list. Though, we should say that said list isn't just the two Liverpool players. Viktor Gyokeres is on there, as are Jadon Sancho and Son Heung-min. Victor Osimhen was on the list but the Nigerian has rejected a move. We'll have to wait and see on this one, then. Liverpool have major decisions to make as these are two of their most valuable players right now. Al-Hilal, though, will do what it takes to sign them.

Harvey Elliott wary of ‘wasting years of career' amid limited Liverpool game time

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is wary of 'wasting years of my career' after starting just two Premier League matches in 2024-25. The 22-year-old played 28 games in all competitions last season, but his two league starts came after Arne Slot's side had already secured the title. A broken foot kept him out for two months, but Elliott still ended the season with just 371 minutes played in the Premier League. Advertisement 'I don't really want to be wasting years of my career because it's a short career,' Elliott said when asked on his future at a media session ahead of England's Under-21s European Championship campaign. 'You don't know what's going to happen. It's a situation that I need to reflect on. I need to see if I'm content in doing what I'm doing and how can I improve as a player.' Elliott was then pressed on whether it is a possibility that he decides to move outside of England for regular football. 'I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself,' he said. 'If that's to go somewhere else, then it's a decision that I'm going to have to make and I just need to see what happens. 'Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But as I said, most importantly, it's just about what's best for my career.' Elliott signed for Liverpool in 2019 and has made 147 appearances for the club. Despite his lack of minutes, he still made important contributions in their season, including his first-leg winner at Paris Saint-Germain in March's Champions League round of 16. His return to Lee Carsley's England Under-21 setup came later that month, when he started against both France and Portugal. This summer will be his second Under-21 European Championship after appearing in five of their six games en route to winning the tournament in 2023. England start their European Championship campaign against Czech Republic on Thursday, June 12. They then face Slovenia on June 15 and Germany on June 18 to complete the group stage. ()
