Postal worker robbed at gunpoint in Palos Verdes Estates, USPS keys still missing

Two people were arrested after a U.S. Postal Service worker was robbed at gunpoint in Palos Verdes Estates, officials announced Friday. It was around 5 p.m. on Thursday when the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department received a call reporting the armed robbery on Via Tejon, outside of the U.S. Post Office in Malaga Cove. Officers arrived and spoke with the victim, a USPS postal worker, who said he was gathering mail when one of the two suspects approached him. The suspect purportedly 'displayed a handgun' and demanded the USPS worker's keys and work phone. Police said the suspect took the keys and phone, got into a vehicle and fled the scene. 'About 30 minutes later, PVEPD officers located the suspect vehicle unoccupied and parked in Redondo Beach and conducted surveillance,' said the department in an Instagram post. Around 7:15 p.m., officers watched as a woman got into the suspect vehicle and drove away, followed closely by a second vehicle being driven by a man who police noticed matched the armed robbery suspect description. 'Officers conducted a felony traffic stop on both cars in Redondo Beach and took both suspects into custody without further incident,' said PVEPD. Although both suspects were arrested, police noted that the firearm and the stolen property remain outstanding. 'PVEPD detectives will continue to relentlessly investigate,' said the department's post. 'We would like to recognize the men and women who worked diligently and swiftly on this dynamic situation. Their hard work and dedication led to the arrest of two suspects.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

It was a true California celebration at the sixth Beach Life Festival in Redondo Beach this past weekend, which offered three days and nights of music and easy breezy vibes. More than 35,000 fans flocked to Redondo Beach to see Lenny Kravitz, Sublime, Alanis Morissette, Train, Pretenders, CAKE, The Struts, Jackson Browne, The Beach Boys (with John Stamos) and many more rock the waterfront. In addition to music, there were culinary experiences from chefs Curtis Stone and Dennis Horton, plus activations and amusements, and an art installation from Punk Rock & Paintbrushes (who held a silent auction for charity). There were many highlights, but Train's set Friday night was the most true blue ode to the coastal surroundings. Lead singer Pat Monahan (joined by his 13-year-old son on some songs) tailored the band's set with spot-on covers for the occasion including: "Led Zeppelin's "Going to California" and The Eagles' "Hotel California," getting SoCal music lovers ready for the season of "sweet summer sweat" to come. Patti Smith says reports about ‘collapse' are ‘grossly exaggerated': ‘Trust me I am fine'

Patti Smith is setting the record straight about a fall she took onstage in Brazil, explaining that reports about the incident have been 'grossly exaggerated' and saying she is doing just fine. The singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Thursday after reports about her Wednesday fall in São Paulo spread across social media. 'This is letting everyone know that I am fine,' she wrote in the post, sharing a photo of herself appearing to wave to the camera. 'A grossly exaggerated account is being spread by the press and social media.' The 78-year-old rocker said she had some 'post migraine dizziness' and left the stage after the 'small incident.' She returned 10 minutes later and finished her set. '[I] talked to the people, told them I was fine and sang them Wing and Because the night,' she wrote. 'I was checked out by an excellent Doctor and was absolutely fine. Please do not accept any other story. With all the strife in the world, this explainable incident does not merit so much attention. Thank you everyone for your concern. Trust me I am fine.' According to American Songwriter, the 'Redondo Beach' singer was onstage Wednesday night with Soundwalk Collective in São Paulo and reportedly fell backward and hit her head on the floor. The headline and story called the fall a 'collapse.' Audience members told the outlet that she was escorted offstage in a wheelchair then returned to the stage in the chair to perform 'Because the Night' and an additional song. After the concert, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and the experimental sound art group she was performing with had released a formal statement on Instagram stories that provided a similar explanation. They had asked fans to 'refrain from posting at this sensitive moment.' 'Patti has suffered from an intense migraine the past couple of days and had some dizziness on stage, but she still wanted to be there for all of us and you and perform today. She is now being cared for by the best doctors in the most loving way and will be back on stage tomorrow night,' the statement said. 'Patti says she is tremendously grateful for your patience and forgiveness and she sends her love to all who attended.' The author and multiplatform artist, who released her most recent solo album 'Banga' in 2012, has been traveling the world to perform. Last year she canceled a show in Bologna, Italy, blaming a 'sudden illness' that resulted in her being hospitalized.
