Is this outfit too revealing for sport? Glamorous athlete sets off fiery debate with one simple video

A successful athlete has sparked furious debate on social media after she was questioned for apparently wearing too little while she was competing. Sabrina Reusch is a German heptathlete competing for LG Telis Finanz Regensburg, specialising in events such as hurdles, long jump and the 200-metre sprint. She regular posts images and videos of her training and competing wearing skimpy outfits - which is the norm in international athletics. But a recent video highlighted her anger at being told to cover up by some of her followers. The video shows her competing in javellin, wearing the same outfit she wears in running events while other competitors chose to cover up a bit more. In professional women's javelin events, athletes typically wear form-fitting singlets or crop tops paired with compression shorts or briefs to allow full range of motion. However, some female javelin throwers choose to wear bikini bottoms because they allow maximum freedom of movement, especially during the explosive run-up and throwing motion. 'Yes I wear what I want – even in javelin,' she captioned the video, which shows her competing wearing a bikini bottom. 'You're wearing too little. God forbid I wear my competition outfit with confidence and feel good in my body.' It has sparked plenty of debate online, with several commenters defending her post. 'You're only young, fit, and attractive for a finite period in life. Enjoy it,' one follower posted. 'Tell them when they can throw a javelin further than you, their opinion might count, but not really,' added another. 'And God forbid people appreciate the physique that God... and a s*** ton of hard work... has created,' commented another follower. But there were plenty opposed to her competing in bikini bottoms as well. 'Why compete in underwear?' one asked. 'As a girl right next to you is wearing normal shorts... not fooling anyone u need attention that's about it,' posted another. 'You're not wearing too little. You're whining too much,' added yet another. Reusch is the latest woman athlete to hit back at trolls complaining about their attire. Earlier this month, British middle distance runner Holly Archer clapped back after being criticised for her choice of attire in the 2025 London Marathon. 'Sorry, should I have worn a tracksuit?' she asked in a social media video. Olivia Breen, a double Paralympic world champion, was also told her sprint briefs were 'too short and inappropriate' by an official during the English Championships. 'I feel disappointed because just as I finished my long jump competition one of the female officials felt it necessary to inform me that my sprint briefs were too short and inappropriate,' Breen said on Twitter at the time. 'I was left speechless. I have been wearing the same sprint style briefs for many years and they are specifically designed for competing in.' British shot putter Amelia Stricker also defended Breen. 'Female athletes shouldn't be subjected to such criticism when there is already so much pressure on women to be 'perfect',' Sticker said. 'We are there to compete. You don't like the outfits? Don't officiate. We don't need officials adding unnecessary stress in those moments.'

I really like the team and I really enjoy playing with the girls. "I don't see the break as the end of my handball career; I just want to have more time for my son. Manuel Neuer's wife - 15 years his junior - steps away from her sport while he keeps his football career going at 39

Manuel Neuer's wife, Anika, has taken the decision to have a break from professional handball at the end of the season. Anika, 24, has been plying her trade as a left-winger for ESV 1927 Regensburg, who are in the second-tier of women's handball in the country. Having grown up with a strong passion for the sport, many fans will be left surprised that she has opted to walk away from it, at least temporarily, later this year. Confirming the news in a statement, she said: 'The decision was very difficult for me. I really like the team and I really enjoy playing with the girls. 'I don't see the break as the end of my handball career; I just want to have more time for my son. 'I will miss the girls and handball very much, so I want to particularly enjoy the final games and finish our great season in the best possible way.' Meanwhile, her coach, Bernhard Goldbach, said: 'It's simply impressive what Ani has achieved on and off the field this season. 'She came back from maternity leave stronger than ever and played in all of her season's games. We can only take our hats off to that.' Anika has a strong upbringing centered around the sport with her father being the chairman of the supervisory board of HC Erlangen - one of the local clubs. Anika and Manuel - who is 15 years senior to his wife - tied the knot in November 2023 and had welcomed the birth of their son Luca in March last year. The ceremony was conducted in secret and an official announcement was never made, however Anika swiftly changed her surname to 'Neuer' on social media. While she has taken the decision to walk away from the sport for the sake of their son, her husband will continue to play for Bayern Munich. The German goalkeeper, however, has been sidelined with injury after injuring himself while celebrating during their 3-0 win over rivals Bayer Leverkusen back in March. Neuer appeared to injure his calf while celebrating Jamal Musiala's goal on the night, and was withdrawn after 58 minutes. Neuer recently signed a one-year contract extension with Bayern Munich that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026, taking him into his 40s. The relationship between the handball player and Bayern Munich's goalkeeper and team captain has stirred up much controversy. Not only because of the 15-year age gap but also because Neuer left his wife of three years, Nina Weiss, for Anika. In 2019, Weiss discovered her husband had been having an affair with a 19-year-old fashion business student in Munich, who is also a handball sensation. Weiss, who bears a striking resemblance to her ex-husband's new partner, ended her two-year marriage to the footballer and left their home in Munich for Berlin. The pair reportedly met at the airport when they took a photo together and a romance blossomed from then.
