Maddox Schultz leads Regina Pat Canadians into hockey history at TELUS Cup

History, by the numbers. It took #19 just 28 seconds in overtime to get his third point of the night to lead the Regina Pat Canadians to their fifth gold medal in the 46-year history of the U18 Men's National Club Championship TELUS Cup. Maddox Schultz lead the Regina Pat Canadians to victory Sunday night in the gold medal game, defeating the Chevaliers de Lévis 3-2 with a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle. "Just saw the hole, right side of the net, from where I was, and just ripped it shelf. Or, low glove actually," he said. "As soon as we got here our plan was to win it, so it is all super surreal right now. We played a full 60 minutes, so going into the locker room we knew someone had to be the hero. This was an absolutely crazy experience, seeing the puck go in the net, seeing the referee call the goal, it is something I will never forget." The performance capped a magical game, tournament and year for the 15-year-old star. Schultz scored a goal or assist in all seven games and finished with a tournament-high 20 points (9-11—20), leading all players in goals and assists. He was named tournament MVP. He also led the Pat Canadians into the history books. It's the seventh medal for the Pat Canadians at the TELUS Cup, along with gold medals in 1983, 1988, 1994 and 1999, silver in 1989 and bronze in 2015. The five national titles ties Regina with the Notre Dame Hounds and Blizzard du Séminaire Saint-François for the most in tournament history. Over the past year, Schultz got permission from Hockey Saskatchewan to play for the Pat Canadians as a 14-year old. He went on to lead the under-18 league in goals, assists and points, and was named the most valuable player at the prestigious Circle K Classic over the holiday season, following in the footsteps of Landon Dupont, Gavin McKenna, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Parise.

Regina Pat Canadians advance to Telus Cup final

The Regina Pat Canadians have made it to the gold medal game at the 2025 Telus Cup. With a 5-0 win over the Elgin Middlesex Canucks in Saturday's semifinal of the national male under-18 hockey championship in Chilliwack, B.C., the Pat Canadians have booked their ticket to their first national championship since 1999. In the semifinal, Chase Surkan opened the scoring for Regina before Ethan Young notched a pair of goals to give the Pat C's a 3-0 lead. In the second period, Cooper Bratton scored to make it 4-0 before Cash Lanigan found the back of the net in the third period. Along with two goals, Young had an assist for a three-point game to lead the Pat Canadians while Taylor Tabashniuk made 28 saves for the shutout. In the final on Sunday at 4 p.m. (TSN+), Regina will face Quebec's Chevaliers de Levis, who beat the Moncton Flyers 3-0 in the other semifinal. Sunday's final will also be a rematch of the final round robin game — Regina's only loss of the tournament — which saw the undefeated Chevaliers beat the Pat C's 6-2. The Pat Canadians, who are appearing in their first Telus Cup since 2017 when they finished fourth, have won the national tournament four times (1983, 1988, 1994 and 1999). tshire@ Telus Cup: Regina Pat Canadians semifinal bound as No. 2 seed An up-close look at young hockey phenom Maddox Schultz The Regina Leader-Post has created an Afternoon Headlines newsletter that can be delivered daily to your inbox so you are up to date with the most vital news of the day. Maddox Schultz notches second hat trick to lead Regina Pat Canadians to third straight win at Telus Cup

Maddox Schultz notched his second hat trick of the Telus Cup to keep the Regina Pat Canadians undefeated record intact through three days in Chilliwack, B.C. Following wins over the host Fraser Valley Thunderbirds and Atlantic champion Moncton Flyers in the opening two days of the national male under-18 AAA hockey championship, the West regional champion Pat Canadians improved to 3-0 with a 6-2 win on Wednesday over Ontario's Elgin Middlesex Canucks, who are representing the Central region. Schultz, the tournament's leading scorer, got things going for Regina with a goal in the first period before adding his second of the game in the second period to make it 2-0. Regina then extended its lead as Jonah Sivertson found the back of the net on the powerplay, drawing assists from Schultz and Eli Johnson to make it 3-0. The Pat C's then increased their lead to 5-0 as Sivertson scored his second of the game before Reid Bechard scored 29 seconds later. The Canucks got on the board shortly after that as Josh Myatt scored before Lucas Can Steensel added a goal in the third period to cut the lead to 5-2. Schultz would then put the game to bed minutes later with his third goal of the day — and second hat trick of the tournament — while Pat C's goalie Adam Muntain made the final of his 30 saves for his first win. The 15-year-old Schultz (three goals, one assist) and Johnson (four assists) each had four points for the Pat Canadians while Sivertson (two goals, one assist) had three to lead Regina to a third straight victory while Elgin Middlesex dropped to 1-2. On Thursday, the No. 2 ranked Pat Canadians will be back in action against the Pacific champion Okanagan Rockets at 12 p.m. before taking on Quebec's Chevaliers de Levis, the No. 1 ranked team, on Friday at 12 p.m. to wrap up the round robin. The top four teams in the six-team event will advance to the semifinals on Saturday (1 p.m. and 5 p.m.) with the winners advancing to Sunday's gold medal final, which is set for 4 p.m. The semifinal losers will play for bronze at 12 p.m. on Sunday. The Pat Canadians, who are appearing in their first Telus Cup since 2017 when they finished fourth, have won the national tournament four times (1983, 1988, 1994 and 1999). tshire@ Telus Cup: Regina Pat Canadians improve to 2-0 with 3-2 win over Moncton An up-close look at young hockey phenom Maddox Schultz The Regina Leader-Post has created an Afternoon Headlines newsletter that can be delivered daily to your inbox so you are up to date with the most vital news of the day.
