Family shaken after intruders ransack Southern California home

A Chatsworth family is reeling after burglars ransacked their home while they were visiting a relative in the hospital earlier this week, getting away cash, jewelry and lifetime's worth of sentimental keepsakes. The unsettling April 21st ordeal unfolded at around 7:40 p.m. in the 22000 block of Kinzie Street, officials with the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to KTLA. Home surveillance cameras captured three suspects wearing hoodies and gloves exiting a dark-colored, possibly gray, Nissan Rogue parked at the curb, with a fourth suspect remaining behind the wheel of the vehicle. The intruders move to the back of the home through a side gate, where the homeowners, who did not want to be identified, said they shattered a sliding glass door to gain access to the home. Once inside the residence, the burglary crew ransacked each of the bedrooms, stealing whatever cash and jewelry they could find. After approximately 13 minutes, cameras captured the three suspects leaving, one carrying a backpack, another with what appeared to be a briefcase and the third with a sack filled with the family's property. $4M in stolen cargo recovered from South American theft crew in L.A. After the video was shared with community members, the homeowners were told that the crew was speaking Armenian over a walkie-talkie while exiting home, though police have not confirmed that detail with KTLA. The intruders left the way they got in and fled the area in the Nissan Rogue. While it's unclear just how much the suspects got away with, the shaken homeowners only sharing that they were 'heartbroken, as the thieves took everything my parents had worked their entire lives for.' Anyone who might recognize the intruders is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477. L.A. police warn of jewelry thieves targeting elderly victims

A spike in distraction-style jewelry thefts targeting elderly victims in Los Angeles prompted police to hold a news conference Tuesday to warn the public about the spike in thefts. There have been several types of these 'distraction thefts' across the Southern California region, with two recently occurring in Manhattan Beach. According to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department, the crimes typically occur during daytime hours in residential areas and involve an organized group of criminals. Authorities say victims are usually approached by thieves of Caucasian descent, possibly Eastern European, generally a man and woman and, in some cases, have had children with them as well. The thieves are known to approach both on foot and in rented vehicles and tend to distract victims by asking them for directions, complimenting their jewelry or asking if they can pray with them. 'Once engaged, they offer a 'gift' of a piece of jewelry and place fake jewelry on the victim's neck, simultaneously stealing the real piece,' officials said in a community bulletin. 'Many victims do not know their property was taken until the suspects have left.' The crime was detailed in the police department's monthly crime report released last Friday, with an estimate of at least 140 of these distraction-style thefts in L.A. so far this year. Police offer the following suggestions for people to stay safe: Avoid engaging with strangers who approach from inside a vehicle Report suspicious activity, including unfamiliar vehicles lingering in residential areas and, if possible, note the license plate number and suspect descriptions If you become a victim, avoid handling the fake jewelry with bare hands to help preserve evidence Please continue to inform the elderly segment of our communities who do not monitor social media and are not always accustomed to following crime prevention tips on their own Anyone with information on these types of crimes is urged to contact LAPD Mission Area Robbery Detectives at 818-838-9800. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Gunfire erupts after victim run over just steps from L.A. sheriff's station

Authorities in the Antelope Valley are investigating after gunfire erupted just steps from a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Station. In a news release Wednesday afternoon, sheriff's officials said deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 4400 block of Beech Avenue. 'The location is a barbershop business located approximately 30 feet from Lancaster Sheriff's Station property line,' the release noted. At the location, deputies found a man suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They rendered medical aid while waiting for medical personnel to arrive and take the victim to the hospital. In the course of their investigation, deputies realized that the victim had not been shot but had been run over by a vehicle. Man, 51, allegedly shot dead by father-in-law, 83, in his Southern California home 'After the victim was run over, the suspect, who was standing in the area, fired several rounds toward the vehicle,' officials said. The suspect, who authorities did not identify, was arrested and a firearm was recovered. It is unknown if the suspect intentionally ran over the victim with the vehicle or if the vehicle was later struck by gunfire. No additional information was provided. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have additional information is urged to call Operation Safe Streets detectives at 661-948-8466. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A.
