Jon Bernthal Wraps Marvel's THE PUNISHER Special Presentation With Heartfelt Speech: 'Impossible' Shoot Completed in 12 Days — GeekTyrant

Marvel Studios has wrapped production on The Punisher Special Presentation, and Jon Bernthal marked the occasion with a heartfelt speech that's now making the rounds online. Captured by on-set photographer Steve Sands, the video shows Bernthal thanking the cast and crew at the end of a grueling 12-day shoot in New York. The actor, who's once again stepping into the role of Frank Castle following Daredevil: Born Again , called the production 'impossible' given the time constraints, but praised the team's dedication in getting it across the finish line. Bernthal is set to jump straight into his next appearance as Castle, flying to London this week to film scenes for Spider-Man: Brand New Day . The tight turnaround likely added pressure to the already ambitious schedule. While Marvel remains quiet on plot details, earlier set photos have hinted at the inclusion of fan-favorite villain Isabella Carmela Magdalena Gnucci, aka Ma Gnucci. The mob matriarch was introduced in Garth Ennis' Marvel Knights run and quickly became one of Castle's most formidable foes. Judith Light is rumored to be playing the role, but Marvel has yet to confirm. Bernthal also co-wrote the script with We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green, who is also helming the Special. "It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story," said Marvel's Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum. "It's so exciting." Winderbaum also revealed that the idea for the standalone Special emerged during production on Born Again , where Castle and Daredevil reunited to dismantle Fisk's anti-vigilante task force. For Winderbaum, bringing Bernthal back was a no-brainer. "Bernthal is a generational actor. He's incredible what he brings to all the roles he plays, but particularly Frank Castle. And he's a great writer. He knows the character inside and out.... 'Also, I love Punisher, but I love Jon's Punisher in particular. The idea that he's in the MCU and can bring that to the greater universe, especially the more grounded street-level stuff, is a huge opportunity and, as a fan, the greatest thing ever." No release date has been announced yet, but with filming wrapped and the energy surrounding the project building fast, expect The Punisher to make his MCU Special Presentation debut sooner rather than later.

The Punisher's full costume for upcoming special has been revealed, and fans are hoping that the characters in Spider-Man 4 will look just as comic book accurate

Jon Bernthal's full new Frank Castle look for Marvel's upcoming Punisher special has been revealed, and fans are praising the comic-accurate details. The new image, shared on Instagram by stevesandsnyc, shows Punisher sporting an all-black outfit with his white Punisher logo front and centre. The vigilante is also sporting knee pads, a bulletproof vest, and body armour much like many versions of the comic book character. The image has since been posted on Twitter by wandasattorney. Check it out below. The picture was taken on the set of the Punisher special, which is due to drop on Disney Plus in 2026. The special, which was announced earlier this year, is co-written by Reinaldo Marcus Green and Bernthal himself, and is expected to be set right after Daredevil: Born Again, which is where we last saw Castle. The one-off is a part of Marvel's Special Presentation series, which started with the Werewolf By Night special in 2022. However, the costume change has Marvel fans wondering if this is how Castle will appear in Spider-Man 4. "Oh…my…God. This Punisher suit going against the new Spider-Man suit is going to be peak comic book movie," said one fan on Reddit, and another added, "This is the best he's ever looked." This comes just days after Tom Holland's new Spidey suit for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was revealed as filming started in Glasgow, Scotland. With new looks for both Spider-Man and Punisher, fans are hoping this means that other characters in Brand New Day will get the comic-book treatment too. This includes Mark Ruffalo, whose return as the Big Green Avenger has just been confirmed. "Now all we need for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Hulk with purple pants," said one fan. Spider-Man 4 also welcomes back Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and adds Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, whose role is being kept tightly under wraps, although the rumour mill has thrown up names as diverse as a time-travelling Mayday Parker and Jean Grey. Who knows, we may get to see Grey's comic book-accurate yellow catsuit finally hit the big screen. The Punisher special is expected to hit Disney Plus sometime in 2026, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will swing into theaters on July 31, 2026. Jon Bernthal Wears The Punisher's New Suit in Set Videos for Marvel Special

A newly surfaced set video shows Jon Bernthal wearing his Punisher suit, offering a glimpse at his updated look for Marvel's upcoming Special Presentation. Captured during filming, the footage teases Frank Castle's return following Daredevil: Born Again. Jon Bernthal brings back The Punisher's trench coat in new set videos A new 10-second set video from Marvel's 2026 Punisher special shows Jon Bernthal in his Punisher suit as Frank Castle. In the clip, he can be seen walking between two yellow school buses. He is wearing a long black trench coat and sporting a thick, unkempt beard in the clip. This marks a significant change from his earlier appearances, including his recent look in Daredevil: Born Again, where he appeared without facial hair and the coat. The trench coat and beard combo hasn't appeared in Bernthal's past portrayals of the Punisher, either in Netflix's Defenders Saga or his MCU debut in Born Again. Separate set videos shared by fan accounts on X (formerly Twitter) seemingly show Frank Castle shooting enemies in a car, then storming into a restaurant linked to Ma Gnucci, who will reportedly serve as the Punisher's main antagonist. She will be the first live-action female villain Frank Castle has faced in years. Bernthal last appeared escaping Wilson Fisk's Anti-Vigilante Task Force at the end of Born Again Season 1. The Punisher special takes place after Daredevil: Born Again. Bernthal co-wrote it with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who also serves as its director. The Special Presentation is expected to be R-rated and will debut on Disney+ in 2026. Bernthal previously told The Hollywood Reporter, 'It's going to be dark; Frank has no interest in breaking out the darkness… It will not be Punisher-lite, I promise you that.' He later added in another interview with Collider, 'If we do it, we do it right, and we have real sacred integrity to the source material.' Bernthal will also appear as the Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, releasing July 31, 2026. That film will mark Frank Castle's first cinematic appearance since Punisher: War Zone in 2008. The Punisher Set Video Shows Brutal Fight for Disney+ Special

A newly surfaced set video shows Jon Bernthal in action as Frank Castle/The Punisher, offering a glimpse at a brutal fight sequence for Marvel's upcoming Special Presentation. Captured during filming, the footage teases Castle's violent return following the events of Daredevil: Born Again. Frank Castle's brutal fight in The Punisher Special revealed in set video New set footage from The Punisher Special Presentation shows Jon Bernthal back as Frank Castle, engaging in intense hand-to-hand combat and wielding a baseball bat. The behind-the-scenes video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @_DaredevilShots on August 4, 2025, captures a sequence involving school buses and brutal close-quarters action. Bernthal wears an olive green sweatshirt in the set footage. In another leaked scene, Castle guns down enemies from a vehicle before storming into Ma Gnucci's restaurant. The sequences draw from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's Welcome Back, Frank, a storyline where Castle targets the Gnucci crime family. Set photos confirm Ma Gnucci's inclusion, though her actor remains unidentified. Unlike her comic counterpart, who loses all her limbs, this version of Ma sits in a wheelchair with all limbs intact. The Punisher returns after Castle escaped captivity from Mayor Wilson Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again. That series returns in March 2026, but it's unclear whether Castle will appear again. Bernthal and Reinaldo Marcus Green co-wrote the Special, with Green directing. The story continues Castle's war against the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Bernthal confirmed the tone remains faithful to the character's origins. 'It's going to be dark; Frank has no interest in breaking out the darkness… It will not be Punisher-lite, I promise you that.' Disney+ will premiere The Punisher Special Presentation in 2026. Bernthal will also return as Frank Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

THE PUNISHER Special Presentation Starts Filming Soon and His Main Villain Possibly Revealed — GeekTyrant

After making his official MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again , Jon Bernthal is getting ready to headline his own Punisher Special Presentation on Disney+, and things are gearing up fast. According to Nexus Point News, production on the one-off project kicks off in mid-July and will run through the first week of August in New York. This special marks a major return for Bernthal's take on the character, co-written by the actor himself alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green. Frank will also cross paths with Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day , but this standalone chapter will give him one hell of a warm-up. So who's Castle up against this time? According to the report, the villain is none other than Ma Gnucci, a classic, grotesque antagonist from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's The Punisher: Welcome Back comic run. For those unfamiliar, Ma Gnucci is a vicious mob boss whose war against Frank gets deeply personal after he wipes out her three sons. The story escalates to the point where Gnucci is mauled by polar bears, loses her limbs, and eventually gets kicked into a burning building. It's brutal, bloody, and exactly the kind of chaos Punisher fans live for. Bernthal seems fully aware of what the audience expects, saying: 'I care very deeply about Frank, I'm really grateful that I'm getting the opportunity to tell the story that I think the fans deserve. 'We're giving it our all and we're trying to tell a Frank Castle story that we're going to turn our back on the audience — it's not going to be easy, it's not going to be light, and I think it's the version that this character deserves and I'm just beyond honored and grateful that we get the opportunity.' As for how this version stacks up against the Netflix series, Bernthal added: 'It's going to be dark; Frank has no interest in breaking out the darkness. It's not going to be easy. I don't know if that's the Netflix tone then that's what it's going to be. It will not be Punisher-lite, I promise you that.' While Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is wrapping up production soon, this quick turnaround suggests Bernthal may jump straight from one project to the next, keeping Frank Castle right in the thick of Marvel's street-level storytelling. The Punisher Special Presentation is expected to hit Disney+ in 2026. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is aiming for a March 2026 debut, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to arrive in theaters July 31, 2026.
