Golf star reveals he considered quitting to make YouTube videos with pals after tournament win

Kristoffer Reitan considered a social-media channel before landing the ultimate clip New hero Kristoffer Reitan pondered the You Tube golf circuit before emulating Viktor Hovland by being a Norwegian winner on the DP World Tour. The Scandinavian star claimed his first-ever success at the level with a thrilling play-off win at the Soudal Open. ‌ Reitan defeated Scotland's Ewen Ferguson and Dutchman Darius van Driel in extra-time in Belgium to claim a maiden win on the Tour. ‌ The 27-year-old won the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final last year to return to the DP World Tour for the first time in six years having previously earned playing privileges through Qualifying School in 2018. But Reitan has revealed that, during a spell off the scene, he seriously contemplating giving up the professional game and moving onto the social-media scene and making YouTube videos playing the game with his pals. He said: 'This has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. I keep thinking back to a few years ago when I was seriously considering giving up the game, I just wasn't enjoying it anymore. I didn't see any progress. 'Any time I would pick up the golf clubs after I took a break, it was just to have some fun with some friends, make some videos. "I was flirting with the idea of YouTube golf for a while, just having fun with my friends and also the same goes with my swing. ‌ 'Just trying to have fun and fun means trying to hit hard swings and trying to hit different shapes, just stuff like that and take the seriousness out of it a little bit. "That's helped me a lot. I need to remind myself of doing that sometimes. 'To be able to turn it around like I have over the last couple of years has been incredible, and to seal it with a win now, it's just unbelievable.' ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Reitan wins Soudal playoff for first European title

Norway's Kristoffer Reitan has captured his first European tour title after making a birdie at the second playoff hole to win the Soudal Open at the expense of Ewen Ferguson and Darius van Driel. Going out early in Sunday's final round at the Rinkven International course in Antwerp, the No. 278-ranked Reitan shot a nine-under 62 to post the clubhouse target at 13 under. Van Driel, ranked No.331, shot 67 to join Reitan in the lead but the No.186-ranked Ferguson looked like taking his fourth European tour title as he went down the last with a one-stroke lead. However, his par putt lipped out to push him into a three-way playoff, which took place on the 18th. The trio all made par the first time but Reitan rolled in a birdie putt from 15 feet for the win after Ferguson and Van Driel had again made par. Australia's Jason Scrivener signed off with a 71 to finish three under, 10 shots adrift of the leaders. Kristoffer Reitan wins Soudal Open, top-50 finish for Conor Purcell

There was heartbreak for Scotland's Ewen Ferguson as Kristoffer Reitan won the Soudal Open after holding his nerve in a play-off following a stunning course-record 62, while Ireland's Conor Purcell finished just inside the top 50. Reitan started the day nine shots behind overnight leader Ferguson and teed off almost three hours before the last group went out. He overcame Ferguson, who bogeyed the last when a par would have secured victory, and Dutchman Darius van Driel in a play-off by converting a 15-foot birdie putt at the second extra hole. Having started the day in 23rd place, Reitan produced 10 birdies against a single bogey to set a testing clubhouse target. Ferguson twice edged ahead with birdies at the eighth and 16th but was unable to hang on, hitting his approach to the last against the grandstand and failing to get up and down. "I don't know what to say, its been a dream of mine since I was a little kid," said Reitan. "I keep thinking back to a few years ago when I was considering stopping playing because I didn't find it enjoyable any more, didn't see progress, and to be able to turn it around the way I have been doing the last couple of years has been amazing - to seal it with victory here is ridiculous. "(Winning) wasn't even on my mind. I just wanted to play a good round of golf, been working hard on trying to stick to my process recently. Obviously today I felt like it was a little bit my day and that was evident at the end... I couldn't be more thrilled." Van Driel's run to the play-off was almost as unlikely as Reitan's. Having drifted out of contention with 11 straight pars to start his round, the Dutchman finally made birdie on the 13th and finished with a spectacular hat-trick of gains, culminating in a 25-foot effort at the last. China's Haotong Li, South African Thriston Lawrence, American Troy Merritt and English pair John Parry and Jordan Smith shared fourth on 10 under. Meanwhile, Malahide native Purcell finished off with a three-over 74 to end up on one under and in a tie for 49th.

It was an agonising Sunday for two Scottish golfers after both Ewen Ferguson and Calum Fyfe were pipped to titles. At the Soudal Open on the DP World Tour, leader Ferguson bogeyed the last hole to drop into a three-way play-off won by Kristoffer Reitan, while Fyfe lost out in the Danish Golf Challenge on the HotelPlanner Tour when home favourite Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen birdied the last to secure victory. After both players found the 18th green, Gøth-Rasmussen holed his birdie putt to seal a one shot victory. 'It feels very nice. It was a tough grind out there today and I am really pleased about getting it done,' he said. 'I was most proud of my putt on 18. I played really well all day and stayed present, in the moment, and managed to hit some quality shots.' Fyfe battles all the way With Fyfe in close on the 72nd hole, the 27-year-old was relieved to see his birdie attempt hit the back of the cup.
