Billy Joel's Wife Opens Up About His 'Shocking' Health Diagnosis
Billy Joel's wife Alexis has broken her silence for the first time since her husband announced he was diagnosed with a serious brain disorder.
On Friday, Joel, 76, revealed he would be canceling all of his upcoming scheduled concerts as he deals with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a condition that occurs when cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain.
"This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance," the statement from Joel's team reads.
On Monday, Alexis Roderick Joel posted a photo of herself and her husband with their daughters Della, 9, and Remy, 7, on Instagram. In the caption, she thanked fans for their support.
'Thank you for the outpouring of love and support. We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received," Alexis wrote. "Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future.'
Before canceling his tour last week, Joel previously announced in March he would be delaying it for four months due to an unspecified "medical condition."
'I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding," the "Piano Man" singer said after calling off his upcoming concerts.
Since the news broke, Joel has received an outpouring of love and well-wishes from his fans, as well as heartfelt public messages from his ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, and their daughter, Alexa Ray Joel.
"We love you and we got you, Pop! I just wanted to thank you all for the beautiful outpouring of love and support amid the recent news of My Father's health diagnosis," Alexa Ray wrote on social media. "My Dad is the strongest and most resilient man I've ever known… and he's entirely committed to making a full recovery with ongoing physical-therapy treatments as he continues to regain his strength. The genuine care, empathy, and concern from everyone means so much to him… it means a lot to me, too."
