Van driver pulled by gardaí after overtaking four cars at speed on rural Wexford road
While the beautiful sunshine was a great start to the day, the members had already responded to a call of a car which overturned in the Murrintown area, and were making their way back to the station. They could scarcely believe their eyes as to what they happened upon. On the road near the entrance to Johnstown Castle, a road which has seen quite a few crashes in the past and is filled with dips and concealed entrances, they observed the driver of a large Renault Master van 'overtake four cars, crossing a solid white line at excessive speed'. Gardaí once again reiterated that 'this road is well-known for having dips, turns, driveways and access to Johnstown Castle, with cars entering the road from numerous directions.' The officers immediately pulled the van over and a garda spokespersons stated that 'proceedings have commenced against the driver for numerous offences against the Road Traffic Act'. Once again urging motorists to watch their speed, they added – 'If you're running late, just be late.'

Man dies after three-car crash near major road
A man has died following a crash near the East Lancs Road on Sunday, police have confirmed. Emergency services raced to the incident at the junction with Chaddock Lane, near to Worsley, at around 4.30pm on Sunday (February 23) after a Citroen C3 collided with a stationary Toyota Rav 4 at a set of traffic lights. A third vehicle was also hit by the Toyota due to the impact from the Citroen. Officers said the driver of the Citroen - a man in his 60s - was rushed to hospital where he sadly died following a suspected medical episode. The occupants of the Toyota and the Renault were uninjured. Police are now asking members of the public with any information on the incident to come forward. In a statement, the force said: "Officers are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on Chaddock Lane yesterday afternoon (Sunday 23 February 2025). "It is believed that at around 4.20pm, a Citroen C3 travelling inbound to Worsley collided with a stationary Toyota Rav 4 at a set of traffic lights. A third vehicle was also involved - a Renault Master – which was hit by the Toyota due to the impact from the Citroen. "The driver of the Citroen – a man in his 60s - was taken to hospital where he sadly died after a suspected medical episode. The occupants of the Toyota and the Renault were uninjured. "Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for information as their enquiries continue.
