Man dies after three-car crash near major road
A man has died following a crash near the East Lancs Road on Sunday, police have confirmed.
Emergency services raced to the incident at the junction with Chaddock Lane, near to Worsley, at around 4.30pm on Sunday (February 23) after a Citroen C3 collided with a stationary Toyota Rav 4 at a set of traffic lights. A third vehicle was also hit by the Toyota due to the impact from the Citroen.
Officers said the driver of the Citroen - a man in his 60s - was rushed to hospital where he sadly died following a suspected medical episode. The occupants of the Toyota and the Renault were uninjured.
Police are now asking members of the public with any information on the incident to come forward. In a statement, the force said: "Officers are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on Chaddock Lane yesterday afternoon (Sunday 23 February 2025).
"It is believed that at around 4.20pm, a Citroen C3 travelling inbound to Worsley collided with a stationary Toyota Rav 4 at a set of traffic lights. A third vehicle was also involved - a Renault Master – which was hit by the Toyota due to the impact from the Citroen.
"The driver of the Citroen – a man in his 60s - was taken to hospital where he sadly died after a suspected medical episode. The occupants of the Toyota and the Renault were uninjured.
"Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for information as their enquiries continue. This includes any relevant dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from around the time of the incident.

Man accused of carjacking WREG reporter appears in court
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of carjacking WREG Reporter Mike Suriani earlier this week appeared in court on Friday. Lashunaye Railford, 43, was charged with carjacking and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. On Tuesday, Reporter Mike Suriani was approached while attempting to fill up at the Mobil gas station on E.H. Crump Boulevard and Third Street at around 10:30 a.m. A man wearing a mask walked up to Suriani with his hand on a gun sticking out of his pocket and demanded his news vehicle. The man got away with the WREG vehicle along with all of Suriani's personal items and equipment. Suriani was left uninjured. The Memphis Police Department says the suspect, identified as Railford, was found on Wednesday in the Toyota RAV4 in the 1700 block of South Orleans Street and was taken into custody. Man accused of carjacking WREG reporter arrested 'Carjacking is a class B felony; you face 8 to 30 years confinement should you be convicted of that offense,' said Judge Taylor Bachelor, General Sessions – Division VII. 'You face an additional mandatory minimum three, five, six, or 10-year sentence depending on the facts of the case,' said Judge Bachelor. Railford told the judge that the $75,000 bond and an attorney were unaffordable, and a public defender, Javier Bailey II, has been appointed. Railford's new, court-appointed attorney asked the judge to have his client mentally evaluated. Suspect wanted after WREG reporter carjacked at gunpoint in Memphis Bailey and Railford spoke briefly before Bailey told the court they did not want a bail review hearing, but did want a mental evaluation. WREG Investigators uncovered Railford's criminal history, to include an arrest in 2005 for burglary of a motor vehicle and theft, for which he served six months in jail. In 2010, Railford was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault and served six years. Summer Wells case: 4 years since Tennessee girl went missing
(NewsNation) — Sunday marks four years since five-year-old Summer Wells disappeared from her home in Tennessee. Wells was reported missing on June 15, 2021, and there has been an active Amber Alert ever since. Her parents said that she was helping her mother and grandmother plant flowers before she went inside to play with her toys. Then, she was never seen again. Body believed to be of missing 2-year-old found in NYC waters Wells' mother, Candus Wells, said, 'I yelled downstairs for her a couple of times, and I didn't get an answer. Which was unusual because usually she always answers me, so I went down there to check and she was nowhere inside, she was just gone.' Four years later, police are still searching for answers in Summer Wells' disappearance. Police had been told about a pickup truck that was reportedly seen in the area around when the five-year-old vanished. However, they only know that it is either a red or maroon Toyota truck with ladders on the back. Since there aren't many clues, if police do end up finding the truck, they still aren't sure if it is connected to her disappearance. But Wells' father said he won't stop praying that Summer Wells is found. Police also had a tip from a neighbor in 2021, who claimed she and her children heard a scream about one hour before Summer Wells vanished. The witness said, 'Wish every day that when I heard that scream, I didn't try to dismiss it.' But there's not much hope in this world. We have to trust God that there's hope in eternal life in heaven,' he said. Summer's parents were never named as suspects in the case, and they both passed a polygraph test. However, Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson had said that everyone was a person of interest. Wells' parents told NewsNation affiliate WJHL that they were frustrated with the investigation. Candus Wells and her husband, Don Wells, believe their daughter was kidnapped and didn't just walk away. 'We know that she was taken off our property. We know that she was taken away in a vehicle or they would've found her in the area if she was somewhere in the area,' Don Wells said. He also criticized the Department of Children's Services for taking Summer Wells' siblings away when she vanished. 'We were stripped away from all our kids. All our kids have been kidnapped from us by DCS, and we're not sure about Summer, but we know about where our boys are at,' her father said. No one has been arrested or named a person of interest in the five-year-old's disappearance. Her family has said they have dealt with harassment online. 'Before you know it, you're getting a mob going. My wife could go to the store, and somebody would scream at her, 'Baby killer,'' Don Wells explained. He claimed that the harassment was so bad that he had to leave the state in order to find work. Summer Wells lived with her parents before her disappearance in Rogersville, Tennessee, a small town in Hawkins County. She reportedly went missing after going inside her home to play with her toys. Her family thinks she could've been taken down the hill behind their home, possibly to a car. Don Wells spoke with NewsNation about his daughter's disappearance, saying, 'I know in my heart and in my mind she was abducted. Someone snuck up there… and we don't know if they came in the basement and grabbed her or if she stepped outside the basement and was walking to her swing…' At the time, police had issued an endangered child alert and searched the woods and other areas near their home. Police have received many tips since Summer Wells went missing, but none of them have led to any concrete answers. Investigators said the case is active, and they have completed many searches as well as created age-progression photos. But they haven't found any clues as to where she went. 'The case is one that we've just not been able to overcome. And it's troubling,' Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Assistant Director Josh Melton said. 'We don't have the evidence in this case to know for sure whether or not Summer was abducted or whether or not she walked away from her home and became lost.' Man, 20, faces multiple charges in October crash that killed Hamilton teen
HAMILTON - Hamilton police say a 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a deadly October collision on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway that was believed to be connected to a dispute between high school students. Police say the crash occurred on Oct. 11, 2024, and witnesses reported that two or three vehicles were racing on the parkway before a Ford Focus collided with a Toyota RAV-4. Three of the Toyota occupants were taken to hospital and one of them, a 15-year-old boy, was pronounced dead a short time later. Police allege the Ford Focus fled the scene with all four vehicle occupants uninjured. The driver of that vehicle is now facing charges that include dangerous operation causing death and criminal negligence causing death. Hamilton police have previously said that the collision is believed to be connected to 'a series of escalating incidents' between students at St. Jean de Brebeuf and Nora Frances Henderson high schools in the city.
