AMCH doc 1st from NE to get nat'l-level medical award for cancer research
Dibrugarh: Dr Gayatri Gogoi, associate professor at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) and adjunct researcher at ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, North East, on Sunday broke new ground as she became the first from the northeast to be honoured with the coveted Blackbuck Pioneer Researcher Award for her contributions to cancer research, during a ceremony in Delhi.
Gogoi was presented with the award during 'Research Summit', which was organised by Medical Dialogues, a premier medical news group, and National Medical Forum.
Recognizing her dual excellence in research and patient care, the award highlighted her dedication to advancing medical knowledge to support cancer patients and their families in the northeast.
Gogoi was selected by a distinguished jury, comprising of former director general of ICMR, dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, HOD cardiology of PGI Chandigarh and other leading medical professionals from across India.
"Research is not just about academic achievement, it's about translating knowledge for better outcomes for patients. My focus has always been on bridging the gap between laboratory findings and clinical applications for cancer patients in our region," Gogoi said after receiving the award.
Her impressive portfolio includes over 50 research publications in peer-reviewed journals, multiple medical textbooks and chapters.

She has completed eight major research projects, with five ongoing collaborations, involving prestigious institutions like IISc Bangalore, AIIMS Delhi, IIT Guwahati, Tezpur Central University and ICMR-RMRC North East.
Internationally recognized for her endeavours, Gogoi has bagged the award for excellence in 'Cancer Care' from North Carolina, US, besides being a member of top global health organisations, including the American Association for Cancer Research.
She also serves as an International Fellow at the College of American Pathologists, apart from chairing the genomic consortium of the northeast.
Beyond her research, Gogoi has made significant contributions to community healthcare through her role as an honorary member of Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust, where she has designed and implemented several successful community-oriented cancer care projects.
