Drastic cut in violations as new law disciplines drivers

KUWAIT CITY, June 1: The General Traffic Department in the Interior Ministry continued its traffic campaigns in all governorates. The recent campaigns resulted in the issuance of 18,488 traffic tickets, referral of 49 juveniles to the Juvenile Prosecution, and referral of 48 individuals to traffic police stations. According to the weekly statistics of the department, 32 vehicles and four motorcycles were impounded, 88 individuals were arrested, including those who violated the Residency Law and failed to present a valid proof of residence, and confiscation of 133 wanted vehicles. The statistics indicated that the department dealt with 1,327 traffic accidents, including 195 collisions and injuries. Meanwhile, Acting Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Buhassan announced that field monitoring and official statistics reveal a significant weekly decrease in traffic violations, particularly following the implementation of the new traffic law. He indicated that field traffic sectors recorded 18,000 violations last week, down from approximately 60,000 per week before the new traffic law was implemented. Lieutenant Colonel Buhassan attributed this decline to increased discipline among road users and their adherence to the new laws. He highlighted the Ministry of Interior's vision and the political leadership's support for the amendments to the new traffic law. Lieutenant Colonel Buhassan said he expects a significant decline in traffic violations and accidents in the coming period, due to the clear commitment of citizens and residents to the new traffic law.

Kuwait Steps Up Deportations – 2,700 Expats Removed In One Month

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: The Deportation and Temporary Detention Affairs Department at the General Administration of Correctional Institutions in the Ministry of Interior deported 2,700 expatriates of various nationalities in April. This is part of the efforts of the department to deport expatriates against whom administrative or judicial deportation orders have been issued. A security source confirmed that the department is facilitating the departure of deportees at an accelerated pace. The source reiterated that security campaigns are ongoing in all governorates to arrest those proven to have violated the Residency Law, the illegal workers, those working for third parties, and those outside the purview of the law. Moreover, the ministry announced in a press statement last week that 1,084 violators of the Residency Law were deported on May 11-18, after taking the necessary legal measures. The ministry affirmed that it will pursue anyone who dares to violate the laws and regulations governing work and residency, stressing that accountability applies to both the employee and the employer. He said various sectors at the ministry continue to carry out security campaigns in a bid to apprehend violators of the Residency Law and illegal workers who are then referred to the Deportation Department, taking into account humanitarian considerations during their detention.
