In a statement issued late in the evening, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) said, "The abeyance of our strike shall be with immediate effect from today in view of the larger public interest and our moral responsibility towards patient care." The RDA also said that it was "satisfied that an FIR has been filed promptly" against Chetan Anand and his security guard, who allegedly roughed up resident doctors last week. "This abeyance is not a withdrawal of our stance but a responsible step taken in good faith and in the larger public interest. We remain vigilant and united, and we trust the administration will uphold its assurances in both letter and spirit", said the statement, adding that "We will review the situation after ten days and take further decisions accordingly." The RDA said most of its key demands have been duly acknowledged and acted upon. "An FIR has been filed promptly in the recent incident involving violence against resident doctors involving Chetan Anand. The institute has addressed the media, publicly condemning the incident and expressing full institutional support for residents. A written assurance has been provided by the administration, committing to the safety and dignity of resident doctors," it said. "We sincerely thank the Executive Director and administration of AIIMS Patna for acknowledging our concerns, taking swift action, and working with us constructively to ensure the safety and dignity of resident doctors," it said. The RDA has been on indefinite strike since August 1. The MLA alleged that he and his wife were mistreated by hospital staffers when they went to visit a supporter admitted to the facility. The MLA's mother, Lovely Anand, is the JD(U) MP from the Sheohar Lok Sabha seat. Later, on the basis of a complaint filed by AIIMS administration on behalf of RDA, another FIR was registered against the MLA. Aiims-Patna services hit as doctors strike over MLA's conduct enters day 3
Healthcare services at Aiims-Patna remained affected for the third consecutive day on Sunday as resident doctors continued their strike against the alleged high-handedness of Sheohar MLA Chetan Anand. Representatives of the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) have called a general body meeting on Sunday to discuss their future course of action. A delegation of the RDA members met with senior officials of the hospital on Saturday as efforts are being made to break the logjam. "During the meeting, we were given assurances. We demand full transparency and accountability through the immediate public release of the CCTV footage related to the incident. This is essential to ensure truth prevails and justice is served," the RDA said in a statement on Saturday. "The administration assured us of full institutional legal assistance for resident doctors and security staff who have been falsely implicated. The administration also assured us that the process to install CCTV cameras in high-risk areas such as the Trauma Centre, Emergency Department, Labour Room, and ICUs will be initiated within 72 hours," it added. The RDA said that it was demanding the immediate quashing of the "false FIR" against a doctor. "We demand the invocation of sections of the Arms Act in the investigation, considering the grave threat posed by the presence of weapons in a healthcare setting," it said, adding that the strike will continue "until further notice". Emergency, OPD and other services were affected as a result of the strike. The RDA had earlier alleged, "The MLA, his wife and his armed guards forcibly entered the hospital area, physically assaulted security staff, threatened resident doctors with death and brandished a firearm within hospital premises. Is there confusion over the role of 'physician associates'?
An investigation ordered by the UK government into physician associates there has found they shouldn't diagnose and treat untriaged patients. It also recommends changing their name to "assistant" rather than associate to stop them being confused with doctors. Four months ago the Health Minister, Simeon Brown, gave the go ahead for Physician Associates to become part of the regulated health workforce here. At the moment the PA's working here are trained in the UK or the US and work under the licence of a supervising doctor. The New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association has backed the two main findings of the UK report, but the New Zealand Physicians Associate Society says the situation in the UK isn't applicable here. Kathryn is joined by Deborah Powell the National Secretary of the Resident Doctors Association and Lisa deWolfe the regulation chair of the New Zealand Physician Associate Society. Low dose, high pressure: Doctors refuse to operate under bond-age
Patiala: Hundreds of young doctors walked off the job at Govt Medical College on Saturday, forcing a near-total shutdown of outpatient care and non-critical procedures here, as anger mounted over low stipends and compulsory service bonds in Punjab's public health system. More than 500 resident doctors and medical students launched an indefinite strike, paralysing services and demanding the state govt address what they call untenable working conditions. At the heart of the protest are calls to scrap the two-year compulsory post-MBBS service bond and increase stagnant stipends, which the doctors say are among the lowest in the country. "The govt has ignored repeated appeals. We've been left with no choice," said Dr Ramandeep Singh, who led the protest alongside colleagues Dr Milan, Dr Mehtab Singh, Dr Akshay, and Dr Gurbhagat Singh. The doctors also oppose a proposed hike in MBBS tuition fees at govt colleges to Rs 10 lakh, which they argue will deepen the financial strain on students. Patients seeking consultations and scheduled surgeries were turned away at the hospital gates, many voicing support for the doctors. "They're the ones who save lives. They shouldn't have to protest for fair treatment," said one patient outside the shuttered outpatient department. While emergency, maternity and critical child health services remain operational, the Resident Doctors Association has vowed to continue the strike until the govt offers written assurances.
