Land for Sindhi refugees: Ulhas drone mapping soon, says min
Mumbai: The revenue department will undertake drone mapping of Ulhasnagar and hold camps to scrutinise documents before handing over property rights to members of the Sindhi community who came as refugees to India during Partition. Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said govt has issued a GR to give property rights to 5 lakh Sindhis residing in 35 towns and cities across Maharashtra, except Ulhasnagar and Thane. He said property rights' transfer will be done on payment of 5% of the ready reckoner rate as set for the first time in 1980. He said govt will observe Aug 1 as Revenue Day and Aug 1-7 as Revenue Week, during which a drive will be undertaken to assess violations on govt land leased to persons or organisations for social purposes. On Aug 2, land titles will be issued to those who resided illegally on govt land till 2011. Special drive to assess violations on govt land
Mumbai: The Maharashtra revenue department will undertake a special drive to assess violations on govt land leased to individuals or organisations for social purposes like building hospitals and schools, a cabinet minister said on Wednesday. Talking to reporters, revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the govt has power to regularise land violations after imposing a penalty on leaseholders, but this will happen on a case-by-case basis and there will be no blanket relief. He said Aug 1 will be observed as 'Revenue Day' and Aug 1 to 7 as 'Revenue Week'. He listed out steps to be undertaken during the Revenue Week and said on Aug 2, the govt will issue land titles to those residing on govt land illegally until 2011 and announce allotment of homes to beneficiaries eligible for housing under PM Awas

Revenue officials protest for better pay, safety
Trichy: Federation of Revenue Associations, a body of various associations of officials in the revenue department, on Wednesday held a protest at the district collectorate, pressing for better pay and other demands. Protesters highlighted growing concerns over their safety during work and increasing workload. Their 7-point charter called for the enactment of a Special Job Security Act to deter attacks on revenue officials, immediate filling up of all vacancies, and a revision of unrealistic work targets that cause stress among field-level staff. They also sought better pay scales considering the workload, an increase in the compassionate appointment quota from 5% to 25% for the heirs of deceased govt employees, and permanent appointments instead of outsourcing or temporary staffing. One of the demands was the declaration of July 1 as "Revenue Day" with state-level celebrations to recognize the contributions of revenue officers. Protesters said the govt's failure to address these long-standing issues has severely impacted the morale of revenue staff.

Revenue officials stage protest in Madurai urging government to fulfil their charter of demands
The members of Federation of Revenue Associations (FERA) on Wednesday took out a rally from World Tamil Sangam to Madurai Collectorate and staged a protest urging the State government to fulfil their charter of demands. The members said that they were overburdened with work and had to meet unrealistic deadlines. Already there was staff shortage and the government was implementing various special schemes. The officials had to implement the schemes and they were under pressure. Instead of burdening the officials with additional work, existing vacancies in various posts should be filled immediately, they said. They also demanded the enactment of a Special law to protect the Revenue officials. The members said that they were constantly facing threats particularly during the field visits. The Special law should be enacted for the protection of the Revenue officials and to take strict action against those who threaten the officials, they said. The members said that the appointments on compassionate grounds had reduced from 25% to 5%. When there were vacancies in various posts and there was already staff shortage, the government should restore the appointments on compassionate grounds to 25% keeping in mind the plight of the families of deceased employees, they said. The members demanded better salaries and special pay considering the workload and the efficiency. They urged the government to recruit the employees on a permanent basis instead of appointing employees on a temporary basis and through outsourcing method. The FERA members also urged the government to declare July 1 as 'Revenue Day' and organise State level programmes to acknowledge the contributions of the Revenue officials.
