LSU Reveals Massive Scheduling News On Monday
LSU football fans have a new date to mark on the calendar — two, actually. On Monday, the school announced it will face off with SMU in a home-and-home series set for 2028 and 2029. The first game will take place in Baton Rouge on Sept. 2, 2028. The return trip to Dallas is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2029. Advertisement It may be a few years out, but this matchup could be sneaky good. SMU, now in the ACC, went 11-3 last season and earned a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff. The Mustangs ultimately lost to Penn State in the opening round, but their rise under head coach Rhett Lashlee has turned heads across the country. They're not the same old SMU — and teams are taking notice that the Mustangs are on the rise nationally thanks to their massive financial backing. For Brian Kelly and the Tigers, adding a team like SMU to the non-conference schedule is a smart play. LSU finished 9-4 last season and narrowly missed the Playoff. By the time 2028 rolls around, resume-building games like this could be critical to punching a postseason ticket. Advertisement Game times and TV details haven't been announced yet, but those will come later. For now, it's clear LSU is continuing its trend of stacking competitive matchups in the new Playoff era. LSU Tigers head coach Brian Lew-Imagn Images And while it might not be Alabama or Clemson, SMU could very well be a top-25 team when these games roll around. That's reason enough to start getting excited — even three years early. Related: Deion Sanders shoots off 3-word message to son following minicamp

SMU Football recruiting surge signals power shift in DWF
Once seen as a regional program on the outside looking in, the SMU Mustangs have transformed into a recruiting juggernaut, especially in the high-stakes Dallas-Fort Worth battleground. With high-level talent flowing into their locker room, it's no longer a surprise when SMU beats out SEC programs. Rhett Lashlee and his staff are winning in their own backyard. The DFW is one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country, long dominated by schools like Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU. Advertisement But that tide is turning fast. SMU's aggressive push for top-tier talent is forcing traditional powers to rethink their strategy. As Locked In Oklahoma's Grayson Singleton put it, 'SMU is getting the blue chippers in DFW. And that's a problem… not just for Oklahoma, that's a problem for Texas, LSU, Arkansas… This is the fastest rising program in the country.' In the heart of a top-five media market, SMU is leveraging its access to NIL funding and elite facilities. The university recently made waves by securing over $100 million in NIL pledges, which is a staggering show of financial backing. That Combine with a College Football Playoff appearance in its first year in a Power Four conference, and you get what Singleton called 'a team on the steepest ascent in the United States of America.' The recruitment of wide receiver Aljour Miles shocked fans across the region when he chose SMU over Oklahoma. This pivotal moment has signaled a shift in perception. Miles, a texas native, was considered a near-lock for the Sooners. Instead, he chose to stay home, a growing trend among local football stars. Advertisement SMU isn't just on the rise, they're redefining what's possible. With elite talent choosing to stay local, a war chest of NIL support, and a proven on-field product, the Mustangs are here to stay. Singleton said, 'Keep an eye on SMU to be in the championship conversation within the next decade.' SEC Powerhouses Lose Key Recruiting Battle To SMU On Sunday
The SMU Mustangs fought off some major SEC programs to secure a key recruiting win on Sunday. Head coach Rhett Lashlee and Co. made the ACC championship game in 2024, their first season in the conference, before securing the program's first College Football Playoff berth. Advertisement SMU has posted two consecutive 11-3 seasons under Lashlee, and the promising trajectory of the program appears to be leading to more victories on the recruiting trail. Class of 2026 four-star wide receiver Aljour Miles II committed to the Mustangs on Sunday after seriously considering in-state powers like Texas and Texas A&M with Oklahoma also in the mix. SMU Mustangs head coach Rhett Lashlee© Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports Miles (6-foo-3, 198 pounds) hauled in 60 passes for 1,114 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior last season at Kaufman (Texas) High School. He is rated as the No. 23 wideout, the No. 24 player in the state and the No. 182 overall player in his class, per On3. SMU offered Miles a scholarship in June of last year and kept pushing for the talented receiver as Texas A&M and Texas entered the picture with offers of their own this spring. Advertisement Miles visited the Mustangs over the weekend before announcing his commitment. He previously took an official visit to Oklahoma State and an unofficial trip to Texas A&M in April. It remains to be seen if Miles will keep his official visit schedule as is after pledging to SMU. That slate includes trips to Kansas (May 30), Texas Tech (June 6, 13), USC (June 13) and Oklahoma (June 30). Related: ESPN Names Last Season's Luckiest College Football Team
