LSU Reveals Massive Scheduling News On Monday
LSU football fans have a new date to mark on the calendar — two, actually.
On Monday, the school announced it will face off with SMU in a home-and-home series set for 2028 and 2029. The first game will take place in Baton Rouge on Sept. 2, 2028. The return trip to Dallas is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2029.

It may be a few years out, but this matchup could be sneaky good.
SMU, now in the ACC, went 11-3 last season and earned a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
The Mustangs ultimately lost to Penn State in the opening round, but their rise under head coach Rhett Lashlee has turned heads across the country.
They're not the same old SMU — and teams are taking notice that the Mustangs are on the rise nationally thanks to their massive financial backing.
For Brian Kelly and the Tigers, adding a team like SMU to the non-conference schedule is a smart play.
LSU finished 9-4 last season and narrowly missed the Playoff. By the time 2028 rolls around, resume-building games like this could be critical to punching a postseason ticket.

Game times and TV details haven't been announced yet, but those will come later.
For now, it's clear LSU is continuing its trend of stacking competitive matchups in the new Playoff era.

And while it might not be Alabama or Clemson, SMU could very well be a top-25 team when these games roll around.
That's reason enough to start getting excited — even three years early.

How ESPN's Football Power Index ranks Auburn's 2025 opponents
How ESPN's Football Power Index ranks Auburn's 2025 opponents Half of Auburn's 2025 opponents begin the season ranked in the top 25 of ESPN's Football Power Index rankings. For anyone in the SEC, the schedule is always a grueling one. Despite the conference not having a national championship in the last two seasons, the league is still regarded by most as the best in college football. The Auburn schedule for 2025 is a tough one, but it is also a manageable one. The conference schedule is the same as 2024 except the home and away portion is flipped. The Tigers add Baylor, Ball State, South Alabama, and Mercer to the schedule. This week ESPN released their Football Power Index rankings, and Auburn ranks No. 14 in the country. The FPI gives Auburn a win prediction of 7.5 games with a 21.8% chance of making the College Football Playoff. Eight wins would be a huge improvement after the previous four seasons, but is it enough for Hugh Freeze? Time will only tell on that discussion. The schedule of opponents will also go a long way in determining the final record. Auburn will be playing good teams most weeks. The opener versus Baylor will be important, and a 1-0 start is pivotal. The FPI is projecting the Bears to go 7-5 this upcoming season and place sixth in the Big 12. Baylor closed out the regular season with six consecutive wins before losing the LSU in their bowl game. They finished 8-5 and will be looking to continue their 2024 momentum. Auburn will host the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the FPI rankings this season in Alabama and Georgia. Both teams are projected to win ten games and play in the College Football Playoff. Auburn has not beaten the Crimson Tide since 2019, and it has been even longer since they beat the Bulldogs. The last win over Georgia was in 2017. Auburn will have a tricky two-game stretch early in the season when they visit Oklahoma and Texas A&M in back-to-back weeks. The Sooners are looking to be more competitive this season and FPI has projected them at seven wins. The Aggies win total is projected at eight wins, and they should be a team in the College Football Playoff discussion. The road trip to Norman, Oklahoma could be an emotional game. Quarterback Jackson Arnold will be looking to have a big game versus his former team. Here is a look at Auburn's schedule, broken down by ESPN FPI ranking: Oct. 11 vs. Georgia (No. 2) Nov. 29 vs. Alabama (No. 3) Sept. 27 at Texas A&M (No. 8) Sept. 20 at Oklahoma (No. 16) Oct. 25 at Arkansas (No. 22) Oct. 18 vs. Missouri (No. 23) Aug. 28 at Baylor (No. 33) Nov. 1 vs. Kentucky (No. 34) Nov. 8 at Vanderbilt (No. 56) Sept. 13 vs. South Alabama (No. 83) Sept. 6 vs. Ball State (No. 132) Nov. 22 vs. Mercer (FCS-N/A) Contact/Follow us @TheAuburnWire on X (Twitter), and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Auburn news, notes, and opinions. B10 - Oregon State 5, Florida State 4 AJ Singer's bases-loaded single to center field ends it for the Beavers. They trailed 4-1 entering the ninth inning, but they came all the way back to tie it in the ninth, and they win it in the 10th. Gut punch for the Seminoles. Game 2 is at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday (ESPN2). And the Beavers almost win it. But Easton Talt's towering shot to right field is caught at the warning track, and we're going to extra innings. My goodness. B9 - Florida State 4, Oregon State 4 The Beavers have scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull even with the Seminoles. What a comeback for the hosts. This game has had so much action through just four innings. Imagn Images After a lightning delay, Louisville and Miami returned to the field, and the Cardinals just finished off the Game 1 win with an 8-1 decision. The two teams will return to the field at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday in a game that will be broadcast by ESPN. The Cardinals finished with 10 hits and got a strong start from pitcher Patrick Forbes, who had nine strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings. Louisville is one win away from the College World Series. T9 - Louisville 8, Miami 1 We're back in action in Louisville, and the Cardinals and Hurricanes are heading to the ninth inning. Louisville needs three outs to get an important Game 1 win. Two perfect throws from FSU to get Oregon State out at the plate … so impressive. Goodness, each runner now has had a runner thrown out at the plate. What an exciting start in Corvallis. Florida State still leads 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning. The play is under review. B3 - Florida State 1, Oregon State 0 The Seminoles have four hits and have had a lot of activity on the bases, but they lead by only one run as one runner was thrown out at the plate. Oregon State doesn't have a hit through two innings. Imagn Images B7 - Louisville 8, Miami 1 The Hurricanes leave two more runners on base, and that has been the theme of this game. The Cardinals have made the most of their chances. The Hurricanes have not. Our third straight game today featuring an ACC team. It's Florida State at Oregon State. The game is set for a 6 p.m. ET start and will be broadcast by ESPN2.
