Four people hurt after fireworks unexpectedly explode at Cape Cod golf course

One person was seriously injured, and three others were burned after a fireworks display prematurely exploded at a country club in Cape Cod on Wednesday. The four people were crew members of Pyrotecnico, the fireworks company responsible for the display, which was supposed to be set off later that night at the New Seabury Country Club in Mashpee at 9 p.m. However, around 4:30 p.m., a firework shell ignited, setting off the fireworks on the ground, in a massive, smoky explosion that could be seen for miles, WCVB reports. One person was seriously injured with non-life-threatening injuries and airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital, while another had minor injuries and was taken to Falmouth Hospital. Six others were evaluated, with two treated at the scene and the rest declining further hospital treatment. "Due to this incident, we unfortunately have to cancel the Fireworks portion of tonight's Event while the situation is handled," Jim Clay, the general manager of the country club said in an email to members. "The BBQ and Kid's Activities are still on. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are focused on the injured person and the safety of everyone involved." "Our crew was assembling the annual fireworks display when a fireworks shell ignited. This ignited the cases that were on the ground," the fireworks company, Pyrotecnico said in a statement Wednesday night. "The State Fire Marshal's office, who had just inspected the crew, are currently investigating the incident." The incident remains under investigation, but the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services said it appears accidental. Brian Jadul told the WCVB that he saw the explosion from the golf course clubhouse and watched as workers ran for their lives. "When the explosion was happening, I saw some of the workers sprinting away from the scene as fast as they could," Jadul said. "Some of them started screaming, so I'm assuming they saw colleagues injured." Another woman, Tabiuntha Carthy, also watched it happen. "It literally was just like boom, boom, boom. I realized something is really not right," Carthy said. "My heart immediately was like Oh my God, these poor people, whoever was there."

Men to serve double life sentences for murder of Revere teen in R.I.

Both men were found guilty by a jury in March on numerous charges, including first-degree murder, for the death of Berta Pereira-Roldan. Veng and Brown also injured Crystal Peloquin, the jury found. Advertisement 'Berta was an innocent bystander who was torn from her family with this senseless act of violence,' Attorney General Peter Neronha said in a statement. 'She was out with her friends to celebrate her nineteenth birthday, and she had her whole life ahead of her. While nothing can bring her back to her loved ones, I hope these double life sentences bring her family a sense of peace knowing that justice has been served.' There, they found the teen with multiple gunshot wounds, officials said. Pereira-Roldan, who had driven to Providence to celebrate her birthday with friends, was pronounced dead at the scene. Advertisement First responders also found Peloquin with multiple gunshot wounds, and brought her to Rhode Island Hospital in serious condition, officials said. 'The two victims did not know each other and both left a nearby nightclub just before the shooting,' prosecutors said. Witness testimony and video surveillance footage showed Veng and Brown had circled the area in a vehicle at least three times just before the shooting, and then sped away after the shots were fired, according to prosecutors. Police discovered 16 spent shell casings at the scene. Then, on Oct. 17, 2019, police responded to a home on Mitchell Street after someone reported finding two firearms in her backyard. 'Video surveillance from the neighborhood on the night of the shooting showed one of the three vehicles identified in the Detroit Avenue footage, a Dodge Durango, pull up to the Mitchell Street residence two minutes after the shooting took place,' officials said. 'The video shows two people getting out of the Durango and leaving the two firearms in the yard where the tenant found them.' Investigators were able to identify and seize the vehicle based on its license plate. 'While executing a search warrant on the vehicle, investigators found DNA and a fingerprint matching Johnny Veng. Cellular data placed Veng in the area of Detroit Avenue at the time of the murder,' prosecutors said. 'The State Crime Lab's analysis of the firearms found on Mitchell Street confirmed that they match the shell casings found at the murder scene,' prosecutors added. 'Further analysis revealed DNA matching Marklyn Brown on the Glock pistol and magazine.' According to officials, Veng's sentence will 'run consecutive to the nine year sentence he is currently serving for a separate gun case.' ‘Unsecured propane line' triggered Block Island explosion that injured two, officials say

A home on West Beach Road on Block Island exploded on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Five people were in the house and three were trapped, according to the Block Island Volunteer Fire Department. A preliminary investigation shows that an unsecured propane line may have caused the explosion. Block Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department According to Matthew Touchette, a spokesman for the state fire marshal, two people were airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Advertisement 'One person suffered a broken femur, another had second-degree burns,' the fire department said. Firefighters also extinguished two small fires at the scene. In an email on Monday, Touchette wrote the incident was 'caused by a propane explosion.' 'The homeowners were at the house over Memorial Day weekend and had no propane which prompted them to call their propane company, who told them the tank was turned off,' Touchette wrote. 'When they returned this past weekend, the homeowner turned the propane on, and the explosion occurred a short time later.' After excavating the site, officials discovered an unsecured propane line in the crawl space of the house, 'which indicated propane was released into the crawl space, triggering the explosion.' 'The Office of the State Fire Marshal has ruled the incident accidental,' Touchette wrote. Advertisement A home on West Beach Road on Block Island exploded on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
