Scotland's 'clean beauty' capital named as shoppers look for greener products
There is a growing movement among beauty fans for clean, green and toxin-free products. Scotland's 'clean beauty' capital has been named in a new study. Research into the growing movement towards clean, green and toxin-free beauty products picked out the UK's top spots. According to research by Rhug Wild Beauty, a respected organic skincare brand, Aberdeen ranked tenth out of 50 UK cities for its interest in ethical and sustainable skincare. The findings were based on analysis of monthly Google search volumes for 22 key terms related to clean beauty, including 'ethical beauty brands', 'clean beauty products UK', and 'toxin-free cosmetics'. Aberdeen recorded 100 searches per month from a population of nearly two million, which translates to 51 searches per 100,000 residents. Popular search terms from the Granite City included 'clean beauty UK', 'clean beauty products', and 'clean beauty brands'. Edinburgh also made the national rankings, coming in at 28th place with 30 searches per 100,000 residents, showing a steady but smaller interest in the clean beauty trend. Rhug Wild Beauty's analysis compared local search volumes against population figures to determine which parts of the country are most actively seeking sustainable and toxin-free skincare options. Topping the list was Oxford, with 88 searches per 100,000 residents, more than 158 per cent above the UK average of 34. Oxford's 171,380 residents searched terms such as 'clean beauty brands UK', 'toxin-free cosmetics', 'green beauty brands', and 'sustainable skincare products' around 150 times per month. Newcastle upon Tyne ranked second with 83 searches per 100,000 residents, a 144 per cent increase on the national average. With a population of 192,382, the city recorded 160 monthly searches for phrases including 'ethical beauty' and 'transparent beauty brands'. In third place was Bournemouth, with 79 searches per 100,000 residents. The coastal city's 163,600 residents searched keywords like 'clean beauty brands', 'green beauty products', and 'sustainable skincare UK' approximately 130 times per month. A spokesperson from Rhug Wild Beauty said: 'This data highlights a significant shift in consumer values regarding personal care. With cities like Oxford, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Bournemouth leading the charge, there's a growing nationwide awareness of the importance of clean, transparent, and sustainable beauty. 'Consumers increasingly reject toxic or synthetic ingredients in favour of ethical, environmentally responsible alternatives. This presents a critical opportunity for brands to align with these values through honest labelling, sustainable sourcing, and cruelty-free practices. 'To meet this demand, brands must continue to invest in transparent formulations, plastic-free packaging, and local, traceable ingredients offering peace of mind to the ever-conscious British beauty buyer.' Double Awards Win at Top Food and Drink Ceremony Highlights Years of Commitment
Rhug Estate won the Sustainable Values prize at the fifth Wales Food and Drink Awards. The 12,500-acre organic farm estate, near Corwen in Denbighshire, has been a driver of progressive environmental practices for decades, and for that to be recognised with such accolades is 'a huge honour' said owner Lord Newborough, who was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the ceremony, held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno. Discussing this success and Rhug's long-standing reputation with journalist and presenter Sian Lloyd – co-founder of the awards – he thanked the many people who have supported the business and its vision to produce globally-renowned meats and produce, in addition to the award-winning Rhug Wild Beauty range. 'We were thrilled to win these awards, which reflect the many years of commitment we have towards sustainable farming and providing customers with first class products and customer service,' said Lord Newborough. 'Being recognised is always encouraging, but what's most important to us is the strong culture and values our team has. We work hard to be a leading example of best practices in our industry and to be at the forefront of sustainability. 'This recognition motivates our team even more and shows we're making a positive impact not just in North Wales, but around the world.' He added: 'One of the biggest moves we will make in the months ahead is a further push towards digital and diversification, as we increase our range of suppliers and stockists nationwide, notably in London. 'There will be particular focus on the meat products and Rhug Wild Beauty collection where we have seen so much growth.' Sian lauded the Estate for its innovative reputation and Lord Newborough for the 'passion and drive' which helped secure the awards, which showcase the 'very best of Wales' and champion companies of all sizes in the food and drink arena. 'What really struck the judges was the relentless pursuit of new opportunities and delivering on that,' she added. 'That is inspiring to other entrepreneurs, it is such a wonderful story people can follow and support on so many levels as the business has been a pioneer for others in the sector.' Lord Newborough – a former winner at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards – responded: 'If you are doing something you believe in then it's easy. Organic farming comes from the heart; you can't approach it any other way. 'The best thing we ever did is embrace our identity and stay true to it, a move which has seen Rhug become a global brand. 'You have to believe in what you do and be brave, which we have for many years, and plan to for many more.' Rhug Estate holds a prestigious Royal Warrant of Appointment from His Majesty The King – one of just seven businesses in Wales to do so.

New spa treatment partnership formed in Mid Wales
A new spa treatment partnership has been formed by a wellness spa in Powys. Bryn Tanat Wellness Spa and Rhug Wild Beauty have announced a new tie-up which makes Bryn Tanat the first spa in the UK to offer facial treatments using Rhug Wild Beauty's organic skincare products. The joint effort brings together two family-run Welsh enterprises, and is the first collaboration of its kind in the Welsh spa tourism sector. The collection of exclusive facials is the result of co-creation between Bryn Tanat's co-owner and spa manager, Kirsty Martin, and the Wild Beauty team. Ms Martin said: "Rhug Wild Beauty isn't just a skincare brand; it's an extension of the land. "Their approach aligns beautifully with ours - grounded in integrity, committed to sustainability, and focused on delivering real impact for skin and wellbeing. "To be able to bring this experience to our spa, so close to where the ingredients are grown, is incredibly special." Rhug Wild Beauty's ingredients are grown, harvested, and formulated at Rhug Estate in North Wales. These ingredients are exclusively available for facials at Bryn Tanat Wellness Spa. The Rhug Estate attracts a substantial visitor following each year, thanks to its organic farm, farm shop, bistro, and wellness-oriented products. The partnership enhances the growing reputation of Bryn Tanat Hall, a five-star countryside escape on the Powys–Shropshire border. The destination offers a collection of self-catering properties and was recently named 'Best Self-Catering Accommodation in Mid Wales'. The spa welcomes both residents and non-residents for spa days, signature treatments, and stays. Treatments include a range of services, from beauty essentials to massages and advanced skincare. Fitness memberships are also a prominent part of their wellness offerings. The new Wild Beauty treatments are now open for bookings at Bryn Tanat Wellness Spa. Bryn Tanat Wellness Centre is a member of MWT Cymru, an independent organisation representing more than 600 tourism and hospitality businesses across Powys, Ceredigion, and Southern Eryri (Snowdonia).
